Could he be traded to NY for Frye, Francis this summer?

O'Neal Nearly In Tears After Loss At Orlando
31st March, 2007 - 11:47 am
Indianapolis Star -
Jermaine O'Neal was nearly in tears after the Pacers fell to the Magic by a final score of 95-87 on national television Friday.

"It's just disappointing to lose the way we have been losing," O'Neal said. "It's embarrassing; it's a lot of things."

O'Neal was asked about wanting to be traded, a question likely to continue to come up as the Pacers move closer to missing the playoffs for the first time since 1996-97.

After pausing for 10 seconds to take in the question, O'Neal put a towel over his face to hide his emotions and ended the interview session. O'Neal has said a number of times since last summer that he plans to sit down with CEO Donnie Walsh and president Larry Bird at the end of the season to address future plans. [READ]

well... Isiah probably has the connections with O'Neal better than anyone and if money was no issue, he could talk him into NY. but Bird knows Isiah is full of **** and the question is will he let him go for something we have. maybe have to give Morris with them too or something. i doubt this will happen but it would kick ass

I think that would take way more than just Frye and Francis....actually, I don't think Indiana would want Francis at all.

yea.. the guy's an All star. if his contract was up that would be so much easier. how much time is left on his contract anyway?

Frye's value has to be pretty low.

O'neal would be jst what the doctor ordered, but he gets injured a lot, so the only way I want him is if we can get him on the cheap because he is forcing a trade, Shaq-style.

Even on the cheap I think it takes 2 of our favorite young players.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I don't like Jermaine oneal. I don't like how he crosses the line between being an enforcer and just being a hoodlum.

One thing about Jermaine I don't want to make the mistake and make him the focal point. He would have to be like David Robinson was. Allow oneal to just rebound and defend. Get in on the offense as it comes and bail out curry when curry isn't going good.

I would welcome Jermaine only for that reason. He simply cannot come to NY thinking he is pat ewing. He would have to come in thinking he is Moses Malone.

i could care less who JO thinks he is, i just want him here, period. if the knicks can consolidate frye and francis for JO you simply must do it. if the pacers want the knicks to add jeffries (a hometown guy) and they throw in probably tinsley or daniels to make the salaries work out, then im not sure if that happens b/c the knicks claim to want cap flexibility in 2 years.

if JO demands a trade then bird kind of loses his leverage. if he can get what some may consider a good young big man in frye and a contract much shorter than JO's than i think he'd consider it.

If we could get JO and keep Lee, it would be worth it. I'm tempted to say that we have to keep Balkman too, but I think that's a stretch.

Knicks and Pacers will never do a deal as long as Bird and Isiah are running the front office and thats fine by me..The Knicks has more important needs than JO...JO is a nice pice to have but it takes a team to win in this league..One player doesn't make a team...Let's stop the starphucking and build from the ground up with hungry players...We are wagging our tails at any star player that might be available disregarding the fact that he may not fit our plans...We could be under the cap in two years, yet we want to throw it away for the Zack Randolfs and JO of the worlds...We stand pat and work with what we have and try to reduce payroll and see where we are in two years...

holfresh, well put. i agree with everything you say.

HOWEVER, if the price is REALLY frye, francis, and jared jeffries, can you really say no?

now i doubt thats the actual asking price and i dont think it'll happen, but if JO for those 3 was proposed it'd be very hard not to bite.

I wouldn't do it...JO is owed 23 mil in 2009...We trade for Oniel and we are handcuffed the way we have been to last 7 years...JO is not the type of player who can turn an organization around either...It's not like he is a Shaq or anything like that...I can see the Knicks just playing the same type of ball with a trade like that and not making any other major moves because we are salary strapped...The name looks pretty in the papers and in the lineup but is that move going to really improve the Knicks chances of contending...I don't think so...

this is so true. I think we should concentrate on improving what we have and reevalutate the situation in a few years once the cap situation is better. Most of the stars only signed 3 year extentions this year and could possibly be available for the taking if NY gets its act together. If our teams improves and becomes a constant playoff contender, then I don't think it would be too difficult to lure a big name FA here in the next few years.

Can't agree more...Nolad calls it starphucking...If we are going all out...Let's make sure it's for a difference maker when we are under the cap...

Differnce maker when we are under the cap? Isn't that starphuching too? Anyway, if the knicks get under the cap, who is the target player and will that one player take is over the top?

only way to get into the o'neal discussion is by trading frye AND lee.

and that's something this team should do.

SHOULD?

You would trade Lee and Frye? I'm all for trading frye, but isiah has to hold on to the core of players that are the heart of the team. Maybe I'm too attatched to lee, but I just think the knicks should not delete what works.

Lee, balkman, Collins now? Sheesh man. Right now its kinda hard to trade any of these guys. Even Nate.

yes, i would trade frye + lee for jermaine. the guy is 28, a defender and a perfect compliment to eddy. jermaine still has a good 5 years in him. we are not rebuilding since we will not be under the cap for another 5 years (at least) and we don't have too many of our own #1's coming up (and we will never tank). a starting frontcourt of lee and curry is a defensive seive. we have marbury for 2 more years so you make this deal.

the team is better off going ALL IN instead of this patch job of a rebuild going on now.
