the hookup brought me in for early shootaround yesterday and as a surprise treat, snuck me in to meet&greet with glen grunwald. this was open to only club level season ticket holders of which i am not. i'm more like the marcy's projects part of the season ticket estate.

i spoke to him for a little bit. he seemed like a very genunine and candid person.

here's a quick recap:

- i asked him what we were looking at with chicago's pick. i brought up a guy like brandon rush. he said that he's an interesting player. right now it's so early b/c you don't know who's declaring, and which underclassmen will declare so it's tough to project who will be available.

- he said he just got back from an overseas trip and brought up tiago splitter. he said he's intriguing but his contract situation is difficult b/c he has a huge buyout.

- he then said that they eventually have to start looking for a replacement for steph who's "getting up there". and they feel that this draft will have some nice point guards available. unprompted, he said "and you can say marcus williams and yeah, i know, spillt milk." (basically we missed the boat on marcus and if glen was here last draft, that's who we would've taken.)

- he talked about toronto and how they got one good point guard in calderon. then followed it up with another one in tj ford. and that the knicks were looking for a "classic" point guard but it may not neccesarily be a point guard...but a point forward. then he said how they also need perimeter defender and a shooter to stretch the defense. (ron artest anyone?)

- he likes the young big man core of lee, frye, curry and now morris and wants to see them grow together.

- they were more active than we were lead to believe this deadline but nothing made sense.

- dolan is going to let them spend some more this upcoming summer.

- they're looking at some cap flexibility in 2 years.

- quentin is undergoing some more back testing and that they will be talking about it soon. (it didn't sound so good and looks like q will definitely be done for the season. but the way he was talking, it almost seemed like it may be much longer than that. very weird.)

Wow the best piece in this information, they are looking to replace Steph and stick to the plan regarding cap flexibility("It Ain't Our Money" though).

2 of the main arguments from the Hater side.

The team messed up with Marcus, they really did.

Do you get the impression that Grunwald will have major pull in the decision making process?

What point gaurd talent may declare this summer?

wouldn't it be interesting if the "unconventional ways" were getting someone like a Julius Hodge? he is from NYC and prob could be had on the cheap. he was a point forward at NC State. He is currently in the D-league, averaging 20.3 ppg, 9 apg and 8.5 reb, 1 block. He also played 42 mins the other day.

Here are his past games of note...

3/18 triple-double 13 pts, 12 rebs, 10 asts
3/21 game 21 pts and 14 assists

i also think by spending $...buyouts?

i don't know if this guy's game translates though. my buddy in denver watched him a lot and said he can't play sg in the nba and he seems too small for sf.

julius hodge is a nice player...but this is a move that will yield little to no impact. we got to get some starter quality players, not role players off the bench.

well i was thinking "unconventional." he is a free agent b/c denver traded him to the Bucks with Boykins and the Bucks released him. like randy morris, he prob could be had at a lesser cost next year, using the lower level.

Time after time, Knicks President, Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas expresses an open admiration for versatility. And the first thing that comes into hoop insiders’ minds when thinking of Julius Hodge and Hakim Warrick -- the duo of topnotch talents who worked out for the team on Thursday at the Knicks’ Madison Square Garden Training Center -- has to be “versatile”.

“I think I am mainly a point guard in the NBA,” the 6-8 Hodge, who played FOUR positions regularly at N.C. State, said. “Or maybe a ‘two’. Either way, I know how to run a team. Let’s put it this way, I want to be known as a guy who does whatever it takes -- and plays whatever position -- to help his team win.”

Hodge, a native New Yorker who attended St. Raymond’s High School, grew up both “a huge Knicks fan” and an avid admirer of Stephon Marbury. “I’ve been following his career since he was in high school and playing with the Gauchos,” said Hodge. “The dude is great. And you know what? He works so-o-o-o-o hard.”

“Life is full of challenges,” added Hodge. “This NBA thing is just another one in a series of many. But the way I look at it, it’s a great opportunity, another new beginning. Even though I’m totally torturing my body to overcome this particular challenge, this process right now is the most fun time you can imagine. I just love playing basketball.”

Do you get the feeling that Isiah may have over-thunk himself on this one?

i should've. just to give everyone the heads up, prior to the orlando game, they pulled me out of the line, made me empty my pockets and then searched my bag.

now just b/c i was wearing a turban with an "ayatollah rules" t-shirt is no reason for this type of treatment. it's a good thing i wasn't coming in on my magic carpet and pet cobra.

How can you not like T.J. Ford and Jose Calderon?

Ford is a Top 3 playmaking point gaurd right now can anyone refute this?

Its unfortunate the Knicks didn't draft Williams when they had the chance last yr but at least Grunwald recognizes the need for a pg which tells me two things: 1. he aint sold on Mardy as the future point 2. He doesn't have any ties to Marb.

One thing that worries me about Isiah is that he seems a little too close to certain players (Marb & Craw) and I hope that wouldn't keep him from moving them if a good sensible package of players were offered that would make more sense for this team moving forward. I wasn't too keen on the Grundwald hiring but I do like that he brings in a different persepective/voice.

What develops this summer with this team will go a long way into either backing-up his claims of cap-flexibility, or debunking it.
"Man, who knows with this team." Aguirre.
