w/that in mind, what do u think of this plan going forward?:

- Frye, Nate, Balkman & CHI's pick to ATL for Josh Smith
- sign D. Stevenson w/the MLE
- buyout Francis
- Marbury & Jefferies to MIN for the #12 pick, #37 pick & their garbage contracts (Blount, Jaric, Hassell)
- draft Corey Brewer (http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/coreybrewer.html) & Sean Williams (http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/seanwilliams.html)

C - Curry / Morris
PF - Lee / Williams / Malik
SF - Smith / Brewer / Hassell
SG - Stevenson / Collins
PG - Jamal / Jaric

IA - Q Rich / Blount / Turd

perimeter defense need filled... shotblocking needs filled... much improved roster w/more balance, youth & finally some sort of direction

thoughts?

I would not give up Frye, Nate, Balkman and a pick for Josh Smith. I would either keep Balkman or keep the pick, but I would not give up both and Frye and Nate. I also would keep Marbury. He is playing at a high level and only has two years left on his deal. Why take on a bunch of bad contracts to get rid of our best player? If we want Brewer, we should be able to package our pick and Frye to move up to get him.

I would do that in a HEART BEAT. That is actually a damn good bargain.

He may not be our best player in a year or so. Also, in case anyone hasnt realized, marbury is the third in pts on our team and is having a career low in terms of the stats. As the younger players emerge, Marbury will fade in to the backdrop...and his contract will be used as an exp. deal or we'll let it run out.

Whats wrong with letting Marbury's deal run out or at least getting to the final year of his deal where he may have value as an ending deal?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

nothing wrong with it. but as long as steph + jamal are on the team, the chances of us seriously pursuing a point guard will be low. i think isiah is comfortable with them as the back court and sees no need for a ball distributor.

Josh and Joe are both extremely talented rising young stars. Childress is good too. So how come it hasn't translated into wins over there?

I am going out on a limb and say its because of Billy Knight

The Suns absolutly suck when steve nash is not playing, and are not a playoff team and they have two allstars, barbosa and diaw out there with raja bell.

If the Hawks had a gm that could have perhaps drafted: Paul, Williams, Felton last year or Roye or Foye this year they would be much better, but they have an awful gm.

Exchange josh smith with marion and he is putting up identical numbers, you can't win without a pg in this league.

You got to be kidding me josh smith is better than any knick and hes 21. That team has a little something going if they can get a frontcourt and a coach.

When you say how much we are giving up you need to look at this number

Curry, Frye, Lee, Cato, James, Jefferies: 143blks Balkman 39blks

Josh Smith: 184blks

15.7pts 8.3rbs 3.2ass 2.9blks 1.4stls

because i want to commit to a direction & a style of play... we haven't done so since Patrick Ewing was traded, & it's about time we gave up on the failed Marbury experiment... it obviously hasn't worked & there really is no upside in keeping him here... he's played the best ball of his Knicks career & this team is still languishing in mediocrity... mine as well ship him to MIN while he can still play & let him reunite w/KG & see if they can accomplish something together where they've both failed since they separated... meanwhile, if we can get those picks from MIN, we can draft ourselves 2 players who can help form a nice nucleus for us for years to come... it's a WIN for the Knicks IMO.

as for overpaying for Josh Smith, i happen to think he's got superstar potential written all over him... to get him for that package would be a bargain & a half IMHO... put him & Sean Williams in the rotation w/Curry punishing teams in the paint on offense, D Lee cleaning up the boards, & Jamal, D Stevenson, etc. getting points on the perimeter, & that's a young, athletic, well balanced team that would bring excitement, defensive hustle, & give the Knicks some very favorable matchups at just about every position on a nightly basis.

because they're an unbalanced, undisciplined team just like we are... they need more help in their frontcourt as well as an upgrade at the PG position... they can address both of those needs w/this trade... they have good depth at the SF w/Marvin Williams & Josh Childress already.

This is a really good proposal. From a Knick stanbdpoint, I would jump on these deals, however, I don't see ATL moving Josh. He's become there best player this yr.

if we can get MIN to make that deal for Marbs, maybe we can sweeten the deal w/the #12 pick instead of CHI's? if ATL is dead set against giving up Smith (understandable), that's fine... i'd be happy w/just making the MIN trade, drafting Brewer & Sean Will, & then exploring other trades using Frye & Nate as bait... the point is, i want to move away from Marbury & Curry battling to see who the "man" is going to be on this team, & i want to build a team around a set identity w/some complementary parts... right now, this team is still in limbo... if the plan is to build around Curry, then it makes sense to dump Marbury, keep Jamal, & bring in some defensive minded players to play with them... if the plan is to build around Marbs, then you have to go for broke & make a deal for a guy like KG or JO... i'd much rather go the youth route.

TMS, although Smith is a great defensive presense, I don't think it can make up for a very poor defensive backcourt of Curry and Lee. Unless you KNOW that either Lee will become great at defense or both will become very solid (I'm not banking on it with Curry) you just can't trust it. That's why I'm not trusting it.

Secondly, yes, as much as perimeter defense is important, it's equally important to get a 2 way player stud to say the least. This years draft seems to be providing that with the likes of a guy with Morris Almond (Whom I never seen play, but heard great things.) We need that kind of consistent shooter which you can't get from Franrawburyson. I think as much as we need defenders, we also desperately need smart offensive players who can be consistent and reliable shooters and fundamental passers throughout the course of the game. You're just not getting that out of Franrawburyson. So yes, buyout Francis, look to see if there are takers for Marbury. Dream about that too, b/c it's not happening with Thomas around.

Find a shotblocker. See what you can get for Curry if he has good value, along with Frye and just about everyone else on the team.

B/c personally, I think the whole team is f'ed up and needs to be rebuilt completely.

that's pretty much Etan Thomas... i'd be fine w/making a minor trade to get a player like that, but that alone won't fix all our issues... we need a big trade to bring in a young future superstar calibre player if we want to seriously think about championship aspirations.

we'd not only be adding Josh Smith... Corey Brewer is projected as a lockdown defender at the NBA level, & Sean Williams is the best shotblocking prospect that's come out of the college ranks in years... adding those 3 guys would improve this team's defense by leaps & bounds... don't forget you're also adding a solid perimeter defender who can score & create his own shots in DeShawn Stevenson too... & putting Jamal at the PG you have a nice size mismatch to take advantage of also... u can always trade Jamal & Curry later if things don't work out, but you'd still have a nice foundation to build upon leftover.
