Ben Wallace will appear at Steve & Barry's in Chicago today with Stephon Marbury to become an endorser to Marbury's $14.98 Starbury sneakers aimed at lower-income families. . . . Former Kentucky center Randolph Morris, who dressed but did not play, wore "33" in college - Patrick Ewing's old number. The Knicks have given him jersey "5."

The last thing we need to worry about is stephs agenda, he seems to be our toughest player and our only real scorer. It's pretty clear now why he started crying when he heard about JC, he new as well as anybody that we were in a world of trouble.

Makes me wanna cry...

steph has done everything that was ask of him this season, and has played through some real adversity with the direction of the team concept.

The sneaker thing was the begining of the new steph and he should definitely get a pass on this one.

If I'm not mistaken, the deal for Marbury with these shoes was no money upfront but a percentage of every pair sold.

Anyone know what his take is per pair, and how many pairs were sold?

I'm just curious how charitable this endeavor has been thus far to his own purse.

I guess he is not pocketing that much if you listen to Ben Wallace.

What has he done again?

He started a business, which sells cheap, low quality merchandise, where he shares in the profits.

And?

I think it is a social and ethical issue. I remember back in the 80s when I would hear stories about kids in NYC robbing other kids and people so that they can buy Air Jordans. People have always defended Jordan saying that when he retires he will give back to the community more so then he did when he was playing. My guess and hope is that he has or is doing something. At least he is giving back to those who need the help like UNC players. Nice warmups they had on against GT.

I don't wee how one relates to the other. Marbury could be making a trillion dollars off it and Ben could say the same thing.

Did Ben really say that? That's huge praise! I'm surprised.

Not to mention Steve and Barry's, the store that approached Marbury about the deal and was already selling good merchandise on the cheap. The truth of the matter is the Starbury line is the most expensive stuff they sell in the store.

Imagine what all this "charity" has done for their bottom line.

I think it was either Wallace or it could have been Cuban. The article was all over the place. I can post it for you.

Ben Wallace Joins the Starbury Revolution

Stephon Marbury gained a lot of positive press for selling and wearing his line of $14.98 sneakers through discount apparel store Steve & Barry's. One of the most vocal fans of the shoes has been Mark Cuban:
"They're aren't many things we will do in our lives that will have an impact on culture and social change. To be able to send a message to kids and sell millions of shoes so the message gets through saying, save that extra $85 and buy your kid a guitar or some clothes. That is huge.

"You can look at NBA cares all you want. You can look at the things I've done for charity all you want. The NBA has never done anything as impactful as what he has done."
That's high praise, and it actually comes across sincere and without hyperbole. And from the sounds of it, Marbury has finally recruited another NBA star to join his movement to change America's mind that "cool" has to equal "expensive." From an email from Steve & Barry's public relations firm:
We are preparing to launch our Spring collection of Starbury ... Stephon Marbury's line exclusively with Steve & Barrys. But this is a much bigger story then another sports figure endorsing another sneaker. Starbury is revolutionizing the sneaker industry each $14.98 sneaker at a time. Of course that fashion aspect of the line is that we have really cool sneakers for men, women and kids that retail for $14.98 and are still considered cool among the sneakerheads of the world. And now Ben Wallace is joining the Starbury team. He believes as strongly in this "social movement" as Steph does.
I've always thought it strange that Ben Wallace doesn't have a shoe deal -- even last year, on his way to his fourth Defensive Player of the Year Award in five years, he was buying his own kicks. Now that he has the biggest contract of his life, he's going to be wearing gear he could have bought with paper-route money. Personally, I love the move, and I think it's a coup for Steve & Barry's, who are getting not only an extremely recognizable player but also one known for his blue-collar image. Kudos all around.
