I know some posters would love to get their hands on Sean Williams out of BC, but I think personally I would stay away from him because of his off the court problems.

Instead of targeting players with questionable character (like Sean Williams and Eddie Griffin) I would go after a guy like Stephane Lasme out of UMass. As a senior this year Lasme averaged 5 blocks per game and blocked 10+ shots in 4 games.

He reminds me ALOT of Samuel Dalembert, his offense is raw but I would say at this point it's better than Dalemeberts and he also pulls down the rebounds (he averaged 9.5rpg this season.)

I think this guy is a much better overall choice than a Sean Williams for obvious reason, getting a shotblocker like Williams isn't going to work out if he can't stay on the court, with Lasme you don't have these worries. As of right now, this guy is flying under the radar but once the draft camps come, this is guy is going to fly up the draft boards. I would make getting Lasme an absolute priority in this draft, we need his shotblocking ability terribly.

speaking of Griffin, i wouldn't mind bringing him in on a 10 day contract... yeah, he's got those alcohol issues, but if he's got his head in the game he's 1 of the better shotblockers out there... minimal risk move

As a UMass Alum., Lasme would be a great sign. He would be the shotblocker we need on this squad. He has 4 Triple Doubles this year, and is a great character guy.

I was just about to post this....Not sure how Lasmes numbers will translate in the NBA because of his size. But I would definitely take a flyer on him with a second round pick.

So what? It doesn't matter how tall you are, it matters what you can do. Lasme can jump higher than anyone and block shots. Josh Smith is only 6'9 and he averages 2.82 blocks a game... height has nothing to do with this.

I'll list every big team that UMass played this year and the amount of blocks Lasme had in the game... HEIGHT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING!

Pitt - 2blks
BC - 3 blks
Louisville - 3 blocks
Kentucky - 5 blocks
Miami - 7 blocks
George Washington - 11 blocks
Xavier - 2 blocks

I agree that his size shouldn't matter. He's proven that he has a knack for blocking shots. My only point is, I would perfer a shotblocker that can play both center and pf for the Knicks. Lasme doesn't have the size to play both positions.

Yeah, he said it was overrated, and you know what, he's wrong. I guess he didn't think too highly of John Salley and what he brought to the table when he played with him huh?

Seriously, it's tremendously underrated IMO. Especially with our bad perimeter defense and poor interior defense - we need a shotblocker in the worst possible way. No way around it.

From this upcoming draft I want a consistant perimeter threat with some size at the 2 or 3 with our 1st rounder (Morris Almond or Aron Afflalo would be my two top choices) and the shotblocker Sean Williams.

Almond looks silky smooth offensively to me. The book on him is that he's too slow, not a good athlete & not a good defender. That may be true to a certain extent, but he'll improve. He really reminds me of Allan Houston in a lot of ways. And let's remember nobody confused Allan with Kobe, Vince or Michael Jordan atletically. But before the injuries, he was a top 2-guard in this league. What he did (shot a high %, made his jumpers and his FTs) he did well as does Almond in a very similar style to the way Houston played. Almond's already a superior rebounder for a off-guard which would be a plus.

Afflalo really could be a Rip Hamilton lite. Their games are very similar. Comes off screens well, great mid-range game, and he's big in the clutch. Plus he's tough as nails.

I 100% take a chance on Williams, with our second rounder if he's still there. He's flat out taller, younger and a more explosive defender than Stephane Lasme, but Lasme's a good shotblocker himself - good call.

Gimmie Morris Almond and Williams to go with Curry, Lee, Steph, Craw and Q and I really think we can win the Atlantic next season. No question.

I agree he's 100% wrong. We can only hope he'll change his mind or he didn't really mean it but was just spinning

i think eddy gives us the luxury of playing a smaller shotblocking 4. eddy's a true center and provides enough frontcourt offense for us, we don't need to be as worried about size as teams building frontcourts around PFs.

i do have to wonder if a guy especially from a weaker conference can still block shots on the NBA level at 6'8. but he's a name to keep an eye on at least.

It's possible Lasme could pull a Balkman and jump into the top 25. You would like to see him rebound the ball better and I think he has the ability to do that. Sean Williams has legitimate top 5 draft talent but Sean has also had recurring problems with weed and or other WORSE drugs. I know he is working with John Lucas so hopefully the kid can get his head on straight. He is outright scary at an athletic 6-11.
I'm pulling for Morris Almond until I see we cant acquire him. I think that we can surely BUY one of phoenix's picks if so desired for a guy who can help in the frontcourt. I would like to see Herbert Hill go against eitehr of these guys because he has a more all-around game--he has the post skills we wish Frye had @ 6-10 AND he has been a very solid shotblocker an underrated shot blocker

Our needs for a keen shooter with a true 2 guard body is a neccessity--I think anyone reasonable can see this. Q-unkown physical problems franchise cant shoot will he be here? jamal maybe be air apparent at PG Marbury needs to slow his minutes down. With Curry in the post we need a reliable shot from the outside.

Sean Williams is my pick for this year's draft... like SAS says often "we need a dawg up in here."

and sean williams is only a huge pot head who had to deal with the (sometimes) inane bc bureaucrats, getting in trouble for nothing at all really. dude just wants to smoke grass, i think that can be said about a good amount of the nba. once he's getting a paycheck, i think thats enough incentive to take a few months off and really focus. just check out his double digit shot blocking games i mean that dude is a freak. i'd use a 2nd rounder on him if he fell. a non guaranteed contract means youre going to get a committed big time.
