We're 2 1/2 behind Indy and if the Nets lose, we'll be 1/2 game behind them.
Korver is lighting the Nets up.

Remember that when you are trying to figure out playoff situations between the Nets and the Knicks, NJ has the tiebreaker. If we beat them in the next two games -- then we are 2-2 head to head. The next tie-breaker is record against the division (because NY and NJ are both in the Atlantic). As of right now, the Nets are 7-5 (soon to be 7-6) and we are 2-8. So they probably win that tie-breaker at season's end. We'll need to be one game ahead to beat them out for a spot.

we have been so fortunate up until this past week. not playing with rj and krstic is catching up with them. they had to overcompensate all year and their only replacements have been nachbar, moore, and house. and now they are showing tired legs with a pretty tough schedule ahead.

now, we have to deal with injuries. we have been fortunate to face boston, gsw, and atlanta during a stretch with jamal and dlee out. but after the seattle game, our schedule gets pretty tough too. and if you look further down the road, the final 7-8 games of the season in april are pretty darn brutal.

Luckily the Pacers play the Nets twice, Miami twice and Orlando once. We play the Nets twice. Miami and Orlando play the Nets once. In other words, all the teams we need to lose will be beating each other up during the last stretch of the year. If we can win more than we lose (big if), then we might be in good shape.

yeah good call. but with this team's history it's not guaranteed that they'll win the games they are supposed to. on top of that they will also have to pull out some difficult wins down the stretch (Dallas twice during March)

Hey, su, I'll take the help any way we can get it. Like you said, we've been dealing with injuries as well. We had lost Marbury for a bit, Lee has been out during this chance to beat poorer teams, Q is rarely 100%, Francis is not the player we thought he would be, and now Jamal is out. Sure plenty of teams deal with injuries, but we've had some tough luck as well. The Nets are supposed to be a top team, and they've had two of the supposedly best players in the league in Kidd & Carter healthy most of the season.

It's gonna be an interesting and potentially more exciting final stretch we've had in three years, that's for sure. Actually, it may be even more interesting because most of the East is so weak that if we sneak in at the 7 or 6 seed we MIGHT even have a shot at winning a series, where as in 2004, the year we went up against the Nets, the top seeded East teams were much stronger compared to the bottom seeds.

This is the kind of situation that i've been waiting for. If you looked at the schedule you could see these trouble spots for the other teams in the East coming weeks ago. I was anticipating that the other teams who were seemingly winning every night would slow down and that we had a chance to still catch them.

Now we need to get healthy and we have a good chance to do that in March. For one thing we've got got 2 days off and then 3 days off followed by another 3 days off, between games. The Knicks need that time to heal up. I just hope we can get our guys back sooner than later.

Tuesdays game is huge

No doubt. The Nets now go on a nasty road trip with the Mavs and then the Rockets & Spurs back to back and then another back to back, with one off day in between, against the Hornets and Grizz. which is not good news for them. Hard to believe the Nets just lost to Boston and Philly back to back. Now they're schedule is interesting. In fact their entire schedule is really tough. But as DJ Su has stated, ours is really rough, with both games against the Mavs and Hornets, plus two against Toronto and the Cavs. One against the Wiz, Orlando, Portland & Seattle (Tuesday's game).

Orlando's schedule is a bit more favorable, Miami also looks easier than ours and the Nets, and Indiana's a mixed bag.

No one has a HUGE edge, but I'd say Miami and Orlando's looked the easiest, in terms of opponents and nights off. Indiana plays a few low level teams, but also play some tough back to backers including one against the Rockets and Spurs. The Nets and the Knick have the toughest schedules, honestly, and I think it might be that we have the worst, in terms of opponents. We have only two games against teams we "should" beat, (and play at home) in Seattle and Portland, and I think the Blazers have played better lately. The rest are all either games we will not be expected to win, or are a pick em.

After looking over things, maybe we are the least likely of the group to make it in. Of course, Indiana, Orlando and the Nets have been dropping making it more difficult to predict. That's why they play the games, huh?

EH! I don't know about us being least likely. We have some tough opponents, but at least we have the games at home and with some rest. The Sonic game will come after some needed rest and they're not at full strength either. The Wiz game will be competitive, but we have a shot in that one. They haven't been playing that well lately. The Raptor game will be after a few days off to prepare for them. Then getting Toronto at home so soon will be a positive in my mind, cuz they'll be a bit more ready for what they do. The Dallas game is a tough one, but at least the game is at home and they'll be on a road trip, which starts in Detroit before our game. It's about TIMING as much as opponent. Sometime you just catch a team when they're weak.

I'm more confident in our chances with 7 more home games in March. NJ's schedule over the same period is WAY tougher. With them only a half game ahead of us, I like our chances.
