...let's hear it for The Replacement Players and Their Annoying, Self-Absorbed, Irritating... But Inspirational and Creative Head Coach who just won another close game,

while operating on nothing but tenacity.

"In need of energetic bodies late in the game, Thomas went with a small, unconventional lineup. Francis and Marbury were joined by Jared Jeffries and the rookies Renaldo Balkman and Mardy Collins in the fourth quarter and overtime. That unit helped turn a 9-point deficit into a 4-point lead in the fourth quarter."

Is the delicate balance of finding, and cohering, adeqaute combinations more delicate than any of us assume?

>>Channing Frye is again the Knicks' starting power forward and apparently will remain there. "I like the look of it," Thomas said. "It gives us a little bit more of punch at the start of the game." The Knicks need Frye's shooting ability to offset the loss of Jamal Crawford and to compensate for Jared Jeffries, who is not a scorer. Thomas started Jerome James for 10 games, then used Malik Rose for one game before reinstating Frye on Friday.

Did someone say "Start David Lee?...."

Like you said, "It's Only the Hawks".

And they still had to go to OT and almost lost.

But that's what happens when you're not that good.

Ok continue trying to make them out to be much more than they really are.

Islesfan - I'm just thankful they got the win

Baby steps homey-domey. Baby steps with a depleted lineup missing five guys.

Just win baby

Isles - what is your opinion of how any head coach must make adjustments to compensate for multiple injuries?

what is the proper strategy?

Good game last night. Jeffries is starting to not look like a total and complete bust (now he is only a marginal bust ) and Balkman, like I have said before, should be getting 20-25 minutes because the kid makes things happen (he is basically David Lee with slightly less offense but more athleticism and defense). Francis worries me because he is just too undisciplined in his game. There were 2-3 times when Curry was on the block and instead of passing too him, he has him set a screen and then pulls up for an off-balance jumper. Curry shoots over .60 percent from the field. GIVE HIM THE DAMN BALL. If these players can learn to be more disciplined in the offense, we will easily play .600 ball for the rest of the season.

i know the exact plays you were talking about. I was thinking the same thing watching the tv. I think the most annoying was we were up four with a chance to go up 6. Curry was on the block and he just shoots this crazy 3. After the play, Curry went over to talk to him, maybe tell him to slow it down. Curry probably would have gotten doubled, so someone would have gotten an open shot. But I can't falter him, he felt he was in the zone, Steph did it a couple times to, only difference was Steph was in the zone.

How about giving it up for our backcourt on weak knees.

Guys admit, we are playing good ball at an important time of the season. Many started strong, but now they are stumbling, we are starting to click.

Atlanta is a "special" team.
You must play small lineup to beat them if you have no interior defense and cannot shutdown the perimeter.
Everybody knows this... So why the "perfect man" Isiah needs 2 quotes to understand this?

Win is win. And credit for it goes to Steph, Steve, and Balk
Isiah is clueless as usual.
Curry and Fry was bad and Fry is not a starter - he brings nothing but long jump shots.

I like you enthusiasm but lets be real. A couple of games like this and we have 2 more guards missing...

arkrud - if the credit goes to Steph, Steve Francis and Balkman, why does none of the credit go to the person pushing their collective competitive buttons?

>>Curry and Frye was bad and Frye is not a starter.

well now, That was some meaningful analysis.

Say What?

>>You must play small lineup to beat them if you have no interior defense and cannot shutdown the perimeter.

Huh?

Atlanta has a crew of athletic forwards who gave the Wizards enough trouble the night before to only lose by one on the road.

The Knicks were without five players, and WON, and the best one can say is the head coach is "clueless"?

The thing about Isiah is that he is will to try something unconventional..It's a process for all including the coach...Isiah has had his good flashes this season of calling good plays but I can't let him get a pass in some back to back games...I think for him to grow as a coach he has to get the players to play harder in obvious let down games..Other than that I'm happy with the job he has done so far...That JJ experiment has to come to a close tho...I really don't care who they start...Frye has disappointed me in his lack of aggression in the paint...Start Lee if it helps...It just kills us defensively up front...

What the Knicks have done without significant scoring from both forward postions is open up additional shot attempts for the guards.

Marbury and Francis (Atlanta), and Marbury and Richardson (Golden State) had license to shoot and shoot some more. The shots, for now, are falling. But it could be considered "fools gold" because we all know the outside shot is a flirtatious companion.

As quicky as it comes, it can disapppear.

Without Jamal, who was the bond with Eddy Curry, the Knicks have gone backcourt-scoring heavy. Jeffries, Balkman and Frye have been counted on to provide respectible play and they have done a decent job of shuttling back and forth from the bench by situation.

It ain't that deep. Actually, it's kinda fun watching Mardy Collins get some run. The Balkman double-double is a good thing and builds his confidence.

Nobody (just as they did after the Denver scuffle) circles the wagons better than your New York Knicks

Even without Crawford and Lee the Knicks should have won alot easier than they did. They are that much better than the Hawks.

I hate the fact that Isiah waited until the 4th quarter to start running when it was obvious Eddy was off and anyone who watched the game from home knew that you had to run on the Hawks because they were tripling Curry and that half court offense was stifling the Knicks offense.

I yeah you earl...I just think that Frye and Jeffries need to finish better around the basket...Ariza had his problems finishing as well..I'm not sure if its strength or conditioning...But I think that Marbs, Francis and Q could be Fools Gold...I would like to see them work it into Curry and the others finish better..

joec - no such thing as a easy win in professional sports.

In the NBA, winning by twenty is not the objective when you're mising five guys.

The Hawks have some players that simply haven't established a consistent rhythm. But Joe Johnson, Josh Smith and Marvin Williams do not suck.

I didn't say easy win, but this is the games that this Knicks team must win. No JJ, Smith and Williams do not suck. BUt the Knicks are deeper. They have more talent. They match up very well against them. This is a game this team is supposed to win and must win.

We lost Lee, Q, and Crawford, three of our top-6 players, and you think we should have beat the Hawks by more ON THEIR HOME COURT. Any away win in the NBA is a good win because it is hard to get those wins, especially for a middle of the pack team like the Knicks.
