couldn't the Giants have offered something better than that for Tatum Bell? i really liked that kid coming out of college & woulda liked the Giants to draft him that year... i think he'd make a pretty nice running partner for Brandon Jacobs... i don't like the idea of shelling out bucks to sign someone like Jamal Lewis... this team doesn't need any more off the field issues... they have enough going on as it is.

Its done. Let's be serious, the Giants don't have a CB as good as Tatum Bell. In fac the Broncos had to give up Tatum Bell and starting RT George Foster for Bly. Steep price.

BTW, Michael Turner was tendered for a 1st and 3rd round pick, so he's definitely going no where at all.

on another note, Joey Porter just got released by the Steelers... we could use an upgrade at the LBer spot.

Porter's kind of a 3-4 guy. Donnie Edwards also got released. He's old but still damn good. He'd be a great stopgap while they draft a good young player and bring along Wilkinson. Brian Simmons from the Bengals is another guy who was cut that might be a good fit.

he'd be a nice complement for BJ... add some quickness & pass catching to the backfield... i hope we sign him so we can save the picks to address the needs in the defensive secondary & O-Line.

Apparently Ahman Green wants 5 mil per. Ouch.

Rhodes depends on the price. His longest run was only 17 yards last year...that's really poor for someone who had as many carries as he did. In addition, 3.4 ypc this year and 3.0 ypc last year is below avg, especially behind the Colts OL and in that offense. He was good earlier in his career and has plenty of experience, but I'd rather make sure we use our money to get any upgrades at LB and secondary where we need vets in addition to rookies.

Other guys the Giants are apparently looking at are S Michael Lewis, CB Rod Hood, OL Leonard Davis and OL Jon Stinchcomb.

Best thing to do is subscribe to the beat writers blogs. Garafolo from the Star Ledger, Vacchiano from the Daily News and Staple from Newsday.

Profootballtalk.com says that the Giants have an interest in trading for Tatum Bell (lions are trying to get draft picks for him).

depending on what pick that is, i'd love to have Bell join this team.

Nothing going on today. Rhodes has apparently left without a contract (though the Giants are said to have really liked him). They've been talking to Leonard Davis' agent all day but he hasn't scheduled a visit. Rod Hood mentioned he'd like to play for the Giants. The Giants continute to supposedly have interest in Cato June and Joey Porter.

thanks for the updates bro... isn't Rod Hood more of a nickelback? i wanna target a shutdown corner if we go the FA route... otherwise i say use the 1st rounder & take the best DB available.

Leonard Davis would be a nice addition for the O-Line tho... i hope we get him.

Well, the only shutdown type Corner available was Nate Clements, and he got 8 yrs, 80 mil with a 22 million dollar signing bonus, which is just plain ridiculous. Hood was a nickleback for the Eagles, but he played behind a couple of good corners. Actually the Giants new DC Spagnuolo was responsible for bringing him in to the Eagles in the first place (he was friends with one of his college coaches). So if anyone knows his ability its probably Spags. So if we sign him, I think it'll probably be a good sign.

As for Davis, he's going to get big money from the Dallas Cowboys, so you can rule him out. I dunno what we're gonna do on O-line. They like Diehl and Whimper, but Whimper is inexperienced and if they move Diehl they will need to bring in someone to play guard. The best guards already got signed.

I think this FA market is ridiculous and the Giants shouldn't overpay for anyone, but they really, really need to bring in Linebackers. I mean after cutting Emmons they only have like 3-4 linebackers under contract and only one of them is really a starter. They have to at least get one veteran LB, whether its June, Porter, Kawika Mitchell (the guy I like best) or maybe even Donnie Edwards or Brian Simmons.

BTW, I heard the Giants are still seriously after Tatum Bell. Detroit wants a 3rd rounder or a 4th rounder and a player. Right now they don't have a ton of people knocking down their door, so maybe the Giants can hold out and get it done for just a 4th rounder. That'd be excellent.

Giants also have some interest in Travis Henry, but Ahman Green just signed with the Texans for 4 yrs/ 22 mil and a decent sized bonus. You better believe Travis Henry will be more expensive than that. And he also has had major issues with sharing carries. He sucked during McGahee's rookie year and when he shared carries with Chris Brown. This why I think Tatum Bell would be good. He played great next to Mike Anderson, and can be very productive with just 150 carries (he'll reel off a few long ones when paired with a power back).

just read that Leonard Davis signed w/Dallas for $50 mil over 7 seasons... that's pretty crazy... & didn't realize Clements had signed for that much... that's sick... i guess you have a point about Hood, but i'm so used to our secondary being burned by everyone & their momma, i'd like to bring in a guy who can actually cover the other teams' elite WR's... i wanna see as little RW McQuarters in pass coverage as possible next season... but i realize they're paying him to be a starter.

damn, if the Giants can get Bell for a 4th rounder, i'll be a happy camper... if DET wants a 3rd rounder, i'd pass & sign Rhodes instead.

The draft is going to be pretty decent for DB's. But we have to hit LB twice as well as DB and probably OL, RB, DT and TE. That's too many needs to rely on the draft for. I think the Giants should stand pat as much as possible, but they have to hit a few needs here in FA. I'd be happy with and LB like Donnie Edwards and a DT like Ian Scott, Ron Edwards, Alfonso Boone or Robaire Smith.

what's the word on Wilkerson? i haven't heard or seen a peep of him since we drafted him... is he going to be a player in this league or yet another busted pick?

& what about Eric Moore? is he still even on the team?

i don't think we need a DT... i thought Cofield showed some signs last season, & Robbins i thought had a Pro-Bowl calibre season... i'd use the picks on the secondary & LBer corps.

Wilkinson played a lot last year, but he got benched at the end of the season. He flashed on/off, but I'm not sure he's ready to start. Doesn't mean he won't be a good player, but we'd be crazy to not to have another option on the weakside.

Eric Moore got cut last year in training camp. I think he's on the Saints.

Giants are fine at starting DT, but you need 3 quality DT's to be effective cause those big fat guys will wear down. William Joseph is still around, but its basically make or break for him. He looked like he was gonna be a big time player in 2005, but then he got hurt and didn't do crap last year. I think we should add another guy. It doesn't have to be a big ticket starter, but I guy who can take some snaps and keep the pressure off the rest of the group. You look at a guy like Robbins- he was very good in '04, didn't do anything in '05, then was very good again last year. You never know what to expect with him and whether he will come in and be in shape.

damn, i can't even remember seeing Wilkerson out there... i guess he didn't make much of an impact... probably more of a special teams guy, huh?

anyway, having depth at the DT position is great, but we need to use our picks to get in some LBs & DBs first & foremost... i think Robbins is gonna be Pro-Bowl this season... & Kiwanuka's gonna be a star... i'm not as worried about the D-Line as i am about who's in the defensive backfield.
