he really went downhill since that knee injury last year... it's like all his confidence was sucked away & he came back a really timid player.
If memory serves me, he started summer league with a vengence, then got hurt again, and was soft after that.
I think a few of things are playing a role.
1. He seems a bit brittle, which combined with a lanky clumsiness might have him playing cautious.
2. He was a negative talker in the off-season and I think he jinxed himself by raising the stakes on expectations.
3. I think he might respond to higher demands and a tougher style of coaching than the 'wine and roses' style of Isiah.
4. Positioning. Again, if memory serves me, last season Frye was setting up around the foul line where he would often put the ball on the floor, bring it into the paint or to the rim. This year he's told to give Eddy plenty of room and he's loitering around the 3 point line. He's got good range to his shot, but those are diminishing percentages out there.
5. He might be a "volume" shooter. I'm not sure occasional spot-up shots allow him to find a rhythm.
6. He's in an awkward position relative to the roster. He battles for minutes between Eddy (the franchise) Curry, and Leebound, his best friend and the most productive player on the team, If he's playing well one of those guys' minutes may suffer, and if he's playing poorly he's shunted to the bench to knit socks for Steph's kids.
7. Careful what you wish for, Channing. He wanted consistency in his role and now it's all jump shooting every day. But when the shot ain't falling, he's got nowhere to go.
If I were isiah I'd tell him to not worry about scoring. Tell him to go out there and set screens, rebound, block shots and make your presence felt in every way but the scoreboard. If Frye feels he's at cause in the matter of winning his shot will return.
