I honestly can't name a single starting 2 in this league that I can look at and say, "Yes, Crawford can shut this guy down."

In fact, I'd struggle to find ANY 2 guard in the league that he can shut down. Shandon Anderson would post him up and pour it on.

Wait you don't mean an actual 2 guard in the NBA right?

Yeah you're right bro. The only hope is that on any given night, you pray he's got his game going and that he puts pressure on his guy like the Miami game at the Garden (Wade) and in the nice win against the Lakers before the break (Kobe). If he comes with his A+ offensive game, we're in good shape regardless. Problem is he's a guy that's a sub 40% shooter and that plus offensive game isn't always there. But the shot selection is getting better. In that Miami game he was just really feeling it, but I like the games he played in Utah and at LA. Took the ball to the basket. He's a much different player when he does that. Shot selection was decent in both of those games...

But yeah his defense is rather poor. Poor perimeter defense coupled with virtually no interior defense is the main problem with us and will continue to spell doom for this team until the problem is corrected. It's got to be addressed. This is a nice collection of talent Isiah's assembled here, but if he's serious about winning games, he's got to continue to shake up the roster until he comes up with a better combination.

Crawfords defense sucks. How much more debate is needed on that subject? Craw will never shut down anyone. How many people in this league actually do that anymore anyway? Who are the stand out defenders in the league at the 2? After you do that tell me how well have they done against Craw? I have yet so see anyone be able to keep Craw in front of them.

The point being, we all agree the Knicks are far from perfect.

If a serious discussion of team defense is in order, then why not address the positive attributes of the current roster and suggest corrective measures that are realistic?

Simply dissin' Crawford ain't the answer.

I would switch the young man to the point where he might make better use of his length against players who are closer to 6'2 than 6'6.

The most critical decision is at the skill forward where the players have become a new breed of taller and fluid athlete. You know the names. As much as I love Quentin, he does not match up well with a 6'10-6'11 dude who can run the floor.

Jeffries has been slow to adjust. Frye, after being groomed as a center in college, is playing out of position at the three. Balkman is on his freshman tour. I would slide him to guard in the mold of Doug Christie, provided he works diligently on his jumper.

Name a team that can stop David Lee from getting his double double every game. Only person that can do is a GM/Coach named isiah Thomas.

Again, who are the top defenders at 2 in the NBA?

Crawford's active and he at least tries on defense. He doesn't sit around picking his nose like Eddy does.

The fact that Crawford gives the effort and still fails miserably makes it even worse.

To look on the flip side, we have to travel nor further than our own line up. Steph Marb can shut down or at least really bother any given 2 guard in this league on any given night.

David Lee can match up with certain players in the league. I actually remember him giving Dirk some fits last year. Not to say he can shut him down of course, but in certain match ups he can be effective.

Can't say the same about Craw. Hypothetically, he could probably match up against himself I guess.

When has Frye ever played the 3? Against who? Have I missed something?

I like the Balkman at the 2 idea. He played well in that role when we were shorthanded due to the suspensions. I'd even say we are a better team with him STARTING at the 2 over Craw.

Marbury
Balkman
Q Rich
Lee
Curry

A nice balance of defense and scoring. With Craw in there we're much too unbalanced which is why we are so inconsistent.

Outside of Q, there is not a lot of outside shooting especially if Marb is feeding the post. Teams may double off of Lee and Balkman. But I still like it.

I'd see your point if he was consistent. Even then, who cares? Defense wins games. Plenty of offense on this team. 6 out of 10 games, Crawford is a bad shooter. 10 out of 10 games, Crawford is a horrible defender. Doesn't add up to victories if you ask me.

If you are so concerned about the defense of this team...How about looking at the positions where it is more important to be a good defender..Like Center and PF...At those positions, they need to deter penetrators and low post/high percentage scorers...Worrying about defense on jump shooters isn't prudent if you ask me..The last 10 Knick losses..Craw throughly outplayed his counterpart, its not even close...Go on, check out the numbers...The Knicks have a lot of defensive issues, it doesn't start with Crawford...
