oh and heres the link about the Magic looking to trade his expiring
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/44643/20070210/no_interest_in_grant_hills_expiring_deal/

Grant Hill/Rights to Fran Vasquez
for
Channing Frye/Jamal Crawford/Malik Rose

Works under the cap. Gives the Magic a good scorer at SG in Crawford(something the Magic sorely lack, consistent scoring from the guards, Crawford might excel better in a structured offense like Brian Hill runs) and some offense from the PF in Frye.

Magic lineup turns into:
Nelson/Crawford/Turkoglu/Frye/Howard
Thats a tough team to beat, gives them a ton of depth on the bench, makes the Magic players in the Eastern Conference.

For the Knicks, whether we like it or not folks, this is still a rebuilding process. This trade gives the Knicks a little cap flexibility and allows them to get under the cap sooner than the summer of 08/09, going into next year, the cap number would be 69million, not great, but much more manageable than 86 million. Also this trade allows the Knicks to take a chance on a foreign player like Vasquez, who is supposedly good but didn't want to play for Orlando. The bright lights of NYC might just get him over here.

Curious to see your thoughts on the deal. I honestly don't think the Knicks are losing that much by making the deal. Crawford is woefully inconsistent and this trade allows to send him packing to a team that plays a structured offense and might get the best of him, along with Frye with a chance to expedite our cap process and add a player with some potential in the deal.

Yes.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Because the knicks are not going to be under the cap in 08 or 09 or 10.

And would the Magic get rid of Hill when he makes the team play better and they can sign who ever they want in the offseason????? They have zero reason..........

And Isiah resigns Grant Hill after the season to a 5 year contract, he gets injured again next season and decides to retire, leaving the Knicks to pay off his contract

Well the point would be to NOT resign Grant Hill, but I know where you're coming from.

While I agree mostly, the Magic are still getting Frye out of this deal, which would give them a great guy to pair with Howard and Milicic.

Fran is another Fredrick Weiss, so forget about him coming over, Hill is just a shell of his self and injured although coming off the books, but then you look at the trade is the bottom line is we give away Frye and Craw for Hill's caproom contract and it will not put us below the cap so why bother ?? We also give up 2 scorers for nothing in return.

they have a chance to make the playoffs. hill's expiring + darko could return a very nice piece that they can use long term. they have to decide whether they can get someone better this offseason via free agency than they can get now via trade. i feel grant will leave them and go someplace to win a ring (if he decides to keep playing). and by making the trade, they can then re-sign darko without any worries b/c of the bird rule. but if they enter free agency, they can't sign a free agent and then sign darko to go over the cap - they need to sign darko first.

out of the realm of possibility deal: jameer + darko + grant for joe johnson.

Plus we would end up tanking the season and the Bulls would then take our pick for sure !!! Then you would blame IT for such a BONEHEADED TRADE !!

The point of this deal is that the Knicks are not going to win in the next few years to begin with, so they might as well cut their losses with Crawford, who is locked up for years to come(Jamal can stay here through 2010/2011 if he chooses, theres no reason to keep him around.

We are giving away our lottery pick EITHER WAY.

We can't just not make moves because our GM was stupid enough to put no protection on the pick. You have to move on and keep fixing this franchise. The pick is gone, get over it and keep making moves to make this franchise better. We aren't winning ANYTHING in the next 2-3 years with this group, we might as well put ourselves in a better position for the coming years to be players. The only way you do that is by making the right moves and right now, not making trades that make us worse(just so the Bulls can't get a #1 pick) isn't going to help. The Celtics/Bobcats/Blazers/Hawks have the top picks lined up already anyway.

Oh please. You are so full of yourself. You haven't made one good point in this thread yet, you've just made statements. Statements are worthless, back up your comments with some real basketball talk.

Also, you might want to quit hijacking my thread.

This is the catch 22 that Isiah has us in with trading this pick with no protection.

Even if there was a way to do this deal and trade some talent for cap relief- we end up helping Chicago out.

I believe Fran is signed with his euro club past whatever time his rights are owned by the team taking his pick on- besides being weiss like- whether he is or isn't- I don't think he has any intention of coming here to the US.
