Rookie Renaldo Balkman, who had a great all-around game in Milwaukee Sunday, is on the verge of getting more time in the rotation.

Asked if he's carving out a spot, Thomas quipped, "He's carving. He's got a meat cleaver."

So what happened last night? I know Jeffries was playing well, but why would you play Malik over Balkman after such a great game???

I swear sometimes i feel like The ghost of Larry Brown lives on.....

I saw him play a little and he seemed lost this game...not a good matchup, maybe phil pointed him out to the team or something.

But he's a rook, he'll get it when we need it, jeffries played superb and could be primarily responsible for the win.

He's ahead of balk in the depth chart.

i agree w/Elite... i can't understand why Malik was in the game over Balkman against an athletic young team like the Lakers that were lacking any post presence when Bynum was out of the game... it's not as if Malik was shutting anyone down on defense or contributing much on offense for that matter... i would have played Balkman & had him guarding Odom over D Lee or Channing... he was torching those guys at 1 point in the game when the Lakers were making their comeback run... Balkman at least would have made it difficult for his man to get off his shot.

Malik and Balkman are two sides of the same coin, one is all smarts, the other is all hustle.

In the situations that Malik was being used, it saved us in my opinion.

Nobody was going to stop odom, especially a rook.

We'll get them next time.

like i've said in other threads, i think Malik's ONLY role on this team should be as a veteran leader in the lockerroom & as a fill in for guys when they get into foul trouble or injured... he should not be seeing minutes at the cost of a talented young kid like Balkman who needs all the minutes he can get to develop his game... this season should be focused on developing our young guys first & foremost, as i've said all along... the W-L record should mean nothing, & Isiah should be focusing on that type of "significant progress" over that of winning a few more extra games compared to last season.

I'm amazed at the extreme degree of second-guessing. Hey, if we had LOST the game, you would have a point. But there's no point is emasculating your 'veteran locker-room leader' malik rose with zero playing time and elevate a rook above him. The coach has to consider team chemistry too, its not playstation.

I agree TMS.. Malik rose really should never play meaningful minutes, he just isnt good enough. He makes way too many mistakes for a "smart" player.. That walk down the lane dunk ( i forget who it was by) but a few games back at the garden... that sealed it for me, this guy just cant play.

Let him teach in practice, he actually looses his locker room credibility when he goes out in the games and plays so poorly - who is going to listen to somebodys advice who cant even stay on the court without blowing an easy shot, turning the ball over, missing defensive assignments, the list goes on and on.......

The coach has to consider team chemistry too
exactly the reason why Malik should not play for reasons i stated in my previous post.

ps all this "we won the game" **** doesent matter... we are a LOOSING TEAM... we loose more games than we win so we have to change things to get better.. if we were a WINNING TEAM and we "won the game" you woudlent hear jack **** from me about Malik Rose

Isiah took Balkman out because Odom was posting him up. I would have suck Balkman on another player, but Rose/Frye/Lee did keep Odom perimeter, which I guess was what Isiah wanted.

when/if they make the playoffs, imagine the threads...

"If lee had started, we would have won the atlantic!"
"isiah says to the press that [INSERT TEAM] is more seasoned then us...eff him!"
"Curry only averaged 7 boards a game...we don't deserve the playoffs"
"I wish we were a lottery team so the bulls can get odom and isiah can be fired"

It's comical.

maybe you guys ought to read what i wrote & understand the point i was making before making those comments? i said the W-L record should not take precedence over development of our young players at this point... that is the point... if you're so short sighted that you'd take the immediate satisfaction of a W against a Kobe-less Lakers team over the long term benefit of having our young players get as much playing time against NBA level competition to aid in their development, that's your prerogative... this has nothing to do w/Playstation based second guessing... this has EVERYTHING to do w/the more beneficial long term effects of having our young kids get as much burn as possible right now.

Team chemistry = not letting rookies get all the minutes from veterans. playing your heady vets in late game situations over mistake-prone rookies.

We won. The coach did his job. 2nd guessing moves after a win is fine, but where you're showing you think like its PLAYSTATION and your veteran leader gets all his minutus took by a rook?

NEXT!!!

SINCE WHEN IS MALIK ROSE "HEADY" DO YOU WATCH THIS TEAM?

The guy makes more mistakes than Chris Dudley drunk and on acid after spinning in circles for 10 minutes

sorry if i offended you with my asterisks

not at all, they turn into curse words when you reply...lol.

You may be one of the funnier posters...I think I'm continuing from the onslaught on me from last night.

Keep em coming elite, like I said, there is more interesting fodder after losses than wins and I'm suprised there are some good posts today considering JJ and Frye contributed to the win.

I know something that might start up a little arguing...

Isiah robbed lee of a double double!!!

Hey im happy as hell that Jeffries played well, I hope he can keep doing that! Frye had a decent game but his inside D was really bad once again... I'll take that funny poster as a good thing though
