I know half of you are gonna shoot this down, but I was playing around with the trade checker for just a minute and I thought about this and it really makes sense:

Eddy Curry

~for~

Rashard Lewis

SEATTLE'S VIEWPOINT

Eddy Curry is, and never will be, a franchise player. He's a 2nd fiddler.

Seattle's in the whole run and gun system right now, but if you look at their team, they have all the pieces that Curry needs to succeed -- a pass 1st PG (Watson/Ridnour), a lights out shooter(Ray Allen), a rugged rebounder(Wilcox), and shotblockers (Petro/Sene, etc.).

All that, and it's a small town market so there's less pressure.

Seattle needs to make the most out of the last good years that Jesus has. I don't think tanking is the answer here. They have a top 25 player, all they need to do is add that 2nd fiddle. I think with a lineup of:

Curry
Wilcox
Wilkins
Allen
Watson

...they could really make some noise in the West.

NEW YORK'S VIEWPOINT

David Lee is the equivalent of the Josh Howards and Luol Dengs. He's a great 2nd fiddler (much like Curry), probably underrated at that. He's statistically the 3rd best rookie out of his rookie class, behind only Chris Paul and Deron Williams. He, like Curry, needs a star to play next to.

But unlike Seattle, we really have no reason to rush. Marbury isn't Ray Allen, and most of our players are young; in fact we're statistically one of the youngest teams in the league - which is where Rashard Lewis comes in:

He's already a top 25-30 player. Still very much in the prime of his career who I believe could be a 25 ppg scorer when made the primary option (unlike in Seattle where he's the 2nd behind Ray).

LOOK AT THE REST OF OUR TEAM BESIDES CURRY --

We're built to be an up-tempo run and gun team. Quentin, Crawford, Nate, Frye, Jefferies, Lee..... I could go on and on, but we don't have the pieces to fit Curry, and probably never will because most of our players are so damn expensive that they'll be hard to trade.

Might as well get rid of the weak link, and build accordingly, with or without Isiah.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Oh, and for all you naysayers that suggest we should keep Curry and just "shoot for the 09 Free Agency" ---

Name me the last time a superstar DIDN'T resign with his team?

A lot of so called superstars are basically scorers...like um, Curry could be in a year or two.

Eddy Curry has a PER of 18.

Lewis is 22.

Now I'm no stat junkie, but it's a ****in trend --

"Stars" are basically all over 20.

Curry didn't find his game until around a month into the season.

I would do this trade in a second. Frye is really a center anyway, and Lewis could solve our problems at the SF spot.

Frye
Lee
Lewis
QRich
Crawford

Let them run, let them be a lottery team that is EXCITING to watch, with pieces that actually FIT.

Once you add a legit shotblocker though the draft in the next year or 2, that team is ready to compete for real.
