isiah had an ultimatum put on him from dolan, so he is clearly behind the 8 ball. the media are sharks in the water just waiting for the first drop of blood. he also has a sexual harrassment suit against him and the garden. to put that out of mind is a huge task. to have that not weighing on your mind and proceed with doing your job takes an immense amount of inner strength and pride.

with that said, isiah the coach has had many advantages (off court related) that isiah the gm's previous coaches didn't have:

1. a guy standing in the aisle looking over his shoulder
2. the most influential guy in the lockerroom and franchise player BY HIS SIDE instead of on the other side of the line.
3. removing lockerroom distractions by having the luxury of sending jalen, mo and francis home.

let's talk about francis for a second. the guy has knee tendinitis and is SENT HOME?!?!? makes no sense. considering he didn't mesh with steph starting, and didn't mesh with the team off the bench, he had no place here. and he's not one to keep quiet and be a good soldier (historically). so he comes down with knee tendinitis out of the blue. so instead of staying with the team and sitting at the end of the bench (like h20 did after microfracture or amare did with the suns), he goes HOME. and not home to his place in ny where he could just come to home games. but HOME HOME to texas. if he was happy, he would probably be here. if he was a good presence to have around, he would probably be here. my guess is that they're working on a buyout or trade for him while he sits at home.

so all isiah has to concentrate on is coaching and that's it.

The knick propoganda ministry has done a great job spinning this one good. Its alla bout appearence at MSG.

I thought Francis was doing a pretty good job of it while here and I thought he was sacrificing for the team.

Who knows the real deal. But February looms and this is a good rumor to spin up.

DJ-Damus? MOre like "Su-Cleo"!

Name another GM who has been able to buyout all of his mistakes the way Isiah has.

What Dolan said as a reason why Brown was fired:

"in fact [Brown] said that we had to change out essentially all but five or six players of the team and proposed that we take on another $180 million of salary. We’re talking over $200 million. He wanted those five or six players waived."

Mo T waived
Rose waived
Francis being talked about waiving

Funny stuff

Waiving 2 players is bad. Waiving half a team is moronic.

jalen rose net result: renaldo balkman, cost: +$32 mil
mo taylor net result: NOTHING cost: +20 mil
steve francis net result: NOTHING cost: trevor ariza + ~$70 mmil

so for approximately $122 mil and trevor ariza, all we have to show for it is renaldo balkman.

You forgot Larry's contract. That's another 28 million. That would bring it to $150 mil for just the last 5 months.

So what?

People despise Dolan, right? Dolan is an idiot. Dolan sucks, right?

Dolan is rich beyond our imagination. Why not thank Isiah for spending more of Dolan's cable lunch money, not less of it. I could care less about the payroll... I want the Knicks to improve.

If spending Dolan's chedda is what it requires to turn over the dreck, and stupendous salaries left by Checketts and Layden, then why the sudden sympathy for Dolan's checkbook balance?

you're right, we do have an owner willing to spend money on the team and that's always a GOOD THING.

but earl, you have to admit that it is somewhat mindboggling as to the net results of what has been spent, no? (in terms of what i listed above)

I'm with Mr.Earl on this one- The amount of money spent on sports and entertainment is disgustingly large anyway. To pretend like it's a travesty that these guys are bought out is ignoring the larger travesty of crazily stupid wealth distribution in our country/planet. That aside, it is unbelivable that we spent basically traded Ariza and 150 million for Balkman. I think the long term story will be that the Knicks will be better, young, with a future and cap room BUT it will have been an incredibly ugly tranformation with a decent result.
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

Then why was Dolan complaining about Brown wanting to waive players and using it as one of the excuses for why he fired him? If I'm not mistaken, it may not be your money but it is his.

i'm sure if you're getting poon thrown at you everywhere you go (& i'm sure he got his fair share everywhere he went), it's easy to cheat on a hot chick, even if her name is Halle Berry.

right now he's probably regretting it though.

93 Buick - by the time Balkman finds his NBA voice in five years, 2012-2013, his 207 million dollar annual check will have people wishing for the good old days of Patrick Ewing's 68 million dollar bargain basesment contract.
