I know this topic has been gone over again and again. But looking at the situation after a good part of the season is gone, we can get a better perspective on it. When they were both drafted people were saying that Isaiah was negligent for passing up drafting Marcus Williams to take Balkman. Well at this point it looks like they were wrong.

Marcus is a pretty good passer, but his assist to turnover ratio is 2.9 to 1.6 - not that great to a guy who was supposed to be the next Jason Kidd. He's shooting under 40% and is 25% from three point range. Meanwhile he considered weak defensively.

Balkman's offensive numbers are nothing much. But the guy's already a very good defensive player and he rebounds well for his position. In other words, he does some things on the court very well - even as a rookie.

The argument was raised that Balkman would have been there at the 30th pick. That's unlikely. It assumes that 9 other gm's didn't know that Balkman was better than the player they ended up drafting late in the first round.

Oddly enough, Jamals A/TO numbers are 4.2ast to 2.6T/O or 1.6per. And the greatest point guard since Magic is at 1.8per???? HMmmmm.

Naw, I can accept that while Marcusis starting his career off slow, he will be a better player. I don't think he will be this great allstar everybody wishes they had though. I think he will be Andre Miller minus the defense. Balkman looks like he can be what gerald wallace is doing if things progess well for him. I don't mind having that in the wings........ matter of fact alot of the play of this board want to trade frye for that right now.

Balkman is the man. Nobody knew his handle was that good. He did do some handling in college but in the nba he displays more than just the ability to drive. He handles like a guard. Plus balkman is a relentless rebounder and a good defender. Only thing he is missing is a real take move off the dribble and a jumpshot. Even though he can shoot just doesn't get many chances, though at this time he shouldn't.

Marcus is good too but he is not a F like balkman. Marcus does what you want out a point guard and he lacks the minutes and experience just as you would say about balkman.

Nuff said. All the hoopla was for nothing. Both players are good at what they do and have a future in this league.

marcus williams comes off the bench and the extent of his involvement in the offense is really giving it to vince and let him do his thing. and when they play him with kidd, they move him to the off guard to shoot.

he's not really getting that big an opportunity to run the offense right now. he does at stretches, and when he does, it's usually passing out to nachbar and wright.

He's a very good foul shooter, but he doesn't get to the line very much. That's something you need in a guard who isn't very good from the outside.

Marcus Williams right now is better than Marbury, Francis, Robinson, Crawford, and Collins. He is the PG for the next 10 years.

That's what I was hearing.

I've watched plenty of Nets this year. Williams reminds me of Jamal Crawford more than Mark Jackson or Kidd. He takes a lot of fancy tough shots. He looks good when he makes them but he doesn't shoot a good percentage. he shoots 3's at bad times from too far out. He doesn't know what a good shot is yet it seems. He looks to shoot before the pass. He throws some nice passes, but he is too frequently looking to make the fancy pass so he turns it over a lot. He can't guard anybody. He is a decent rebounder.

That is my synopsis.

Isiah was negligent to have stocked hiimself with so many guards.

It would have faired better to keep reezy, draft williams and let penny's deal expire. Or in otherwords, no francis.

Isiah has no faith in the process of youth. Jackie blue would have made JJ1 obsolete ( to think he had him pegged as his starter!!!), and Reezy could have been as good as balkman is or will be..

Just again, with JJ2, he is tying his hands once again.

I still take Marcus Williams over Balkman... easily. Marcus is going to be a star in this league.

Watching Marcus williams is like watching a veteran pg AT TIMES.

The way he sets up his teammates is fun to watch.

This type of PG needs to be in NY, NO QUESTION ABOUT IT ?

Just because he has the look of a "tree smoker" that must have scared a lot of team from drafting him the skill level is there.

Balkman skillz would be great on a good established team(no pressure to shine as a rookie). He also looks like a "tree smoker"
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I'd like to hear from someone who has consistently watched the Nets.

Williams has been forced into playing pseudo 2 guard and he's had nagging injuries to his shooting hand and back . He has shown great signs at times--20+ points in the 4th Q against the Suns--high assist games etc... Ive seen the Nets play almost every game. I wouldnt worry about Marcus Williams--he's going to be a top flight NBA PG when his time comes--he has every skill and he's extremely smart and savvy. There is NO doubt in my mind that skipping Marcus Williams to favor Mardy Collins will prove to be really dumb as was taking Frye over Bynum. I don't really car who agrees with me--there is a lot of things I'm pretty stupid at---judging basketball talent isnt one of them.

I'll take Balkman over Ariza. He shows skills Reezy couldn't have learned. Ariza, Balkman, Butler, and Williams will all be good if they get minutes.

Marcus Williams is no Deron Williams.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Nalod - say what?

No faith in "The process" of youth?

Frye is 22. Lee is 22. Balkman is 22. Nate - 22. Collins 22. Curry is 24. Jeffries is 27. Quentin is only 27. It would appear the process is already underway as most of these players are getting minutes.

what process are you referring to?

once a knick always a knick
