My friend tells me it's all but done, but this is what he said:

"Arizona would send pitcher Luis Vizcaino to the Yankees along with minor league pitcher Ross Ohlendorf and shortstop Alberto Gonzalez, another baseball official said, also on condition of anonymity. The Yankees also might receive another minor league pitcher, the official said, and would pay between $1.5 million and $2 million of Johnson's $16 million salary this year."

I don't know where he got that quote from, but again, he said it's all but done. Someone wanna help out?

I'd never thought I'd say this regarding Randy but thank god! Vizcaino looks like he will help our pen. All we need is for one of those prospects to be decent and its a great deal. Addition by subtraction

Dont know much about the prospects, but like Guns said hopefully one of them turns out to be good. Yanks need an influx of youth into the pitching rotation. Wont miss Randy mush at all.

BTW, its being reported on ESPN that is a tentative deal.

Yanks got rid of the two biggest jerkoffs on their roster they didnt need and got young pitching back for them. Great deals by Cashman. It really opens up good options for them in either future trades or developing a solid pitching pipeline. Their system is loaded with pitching right now, its fantastic. No position players, but you can always buy those. When you look at the total BS market for pitchers these days these are GREAT deals

still don't understand the pettite signing for $16 mil...but that's a steinbrenner move through and through.

probably should've went after lilly but whatever. all i know is that when the new stadium is open, we got some nice young players to put out there.

I forgot that we got rid of Sheff too. Getting rid of those 2 alone and making room for the youngers guys is awesome in itself.

What do you guys think about A-Rod. Do you think he will turn it around and be the player he was in Seattle? Personally I'd get rid off him for some top tier prospects. Never seen a player hit so many meaningless HRs since being here

Now that Sheff is gone, lets just hope they keep Melky. I wonder if it's gonna be Matsui or Melky as the opening day starter.

look at the market. Look at what Zito (not an elite pitcher) got, look at what Boston paid for Kamakazi whatever. Look at what douchebags like Gil Meche and Lilly got.

Pettitte is a prove postseason performer and its a short term deal. This isnt a 6 year Isiah type contract. Pettite's #'s look worse than they are because his first half was terrible. Look at his 2nd half numbers. Also he's been healthy for 2 years.

Its a better signing between the #s then you realize. And of course he's Andy, and we know he fits with Joe, Derrick, Mo, Giambi, etc. etc.

I love the Pettite signing. It's a short contract so if he can't pitch its not a big deal. He'll be huge for us in the playoffs. He's exactly the starting pitcher we've been missing the last few seasons. Even young gems like Johan Santana, Zito struggle in the playoffs. Pettite has proven that he can win big games. Lilly is average..dime-a-dozen pitcher that can be had at any time IMO. The current rotation looks strong with Wang, Pettite, Moose, Igawa, Pavano or Hughes

Salary dump deal. Yanks get Vizcaino (ok reliever), Ohlendorf (good SP prospect), Steven Jackson (SP prospect with good ERA and K numbers in AA) and Gonzales (SS prospect who is a plus fielder and hits around .290/.300 in the minors with very little power).

Supposedly they will pay about $2 mil of Randy's salary. Saves them money to use towards signing Roger Clemens.

With Petittte, don't look at the money look at the term. Would you rather have given him 10-12 mil a year for 4 years or a 2 year deal that might pay him 16 mil per.

give me $2 mil and i'll go out there. that's an even better bargain.

i know the intangibles andy brings but it's like when we brought back tino to recapture the magic. plus, he's not an iron man and going from the national back to the american league, he probably will get lit up from time to time.

but as a 4th/5th starter, i guess i'll take it. but i just feel like if we traded some minor leaguer and threw in $10 mil in cash, we could get somebody alot better.

We overpaid for Andy in order to make up for letting him go. Tino was close to 40 when we brought him back. Pettite still has at least another 4-5 good years left in him

He got it from ESPN. its been all over the news today.

Good riddance Randy. I was a pretty big supporter of his but the guy is too old and his back is too messed up. Good riddance.

Pettitte's better than just "intangibles" or a 4th or 5th starter. He was injured a lot in the first half (nagging stuff). But Post all-star he was 7-4 with 2.83 ERA and 1.24 WHIP and 86K's in 93 innings. And the year prior he was a studly 17-9 with a 2.39 and 1.03 WHIP. Plus you know he can get it done in NY, which is more than you can say for a bunch of hte pitcher the Yanks have signed recently.

I think Andy is going to be solid for us but I hope people don't expect too much from him. His ERA and his WHIP are going to go up coming from the NL to the AL but I still expect him to rack up the wins and he has the capability to be the Yankees "stopper" again.

I think REASONABLE expectations for Andy would be: 33starts, 15wins, 3.80ERA, 1.30WHIP

his era was always in the high 3-4 range in the AL. The offensive is stronger than the last time he was here so he should actually win more games. The key is what how much he helps us in the playoffs

Long-term, the Randy deal is good, but I can't get excited about the short-term. Randy performed far short of expectations but he did go 34-19 with a 4.35 ERA and many innings pitched. I'm not thrilled with the loss in starting pitching depth. As for Pettitte, are you sure he was healthy last year? I heard that his elbow was so bad that at one point he was contemplating retirement.
