OK, as of right now on Dec. 25th, the Knicks are only 1 game out of 1st place. The other teams in the division are minus important players. Bosh, Pierce, Krstic and AI. There's never been a better opportunity for this team to grasp the lead in this div. It's to the point where not doing so could very well mean Isiah's job. How can someone not look at that as a failure not to win the div when it's totally up for grabs? It can't get any easier than this. While the other teams will likely play hard to stay in the race while their top players heal, we have to be the team that takes advantage of their relative weakness and start winning games.

Sure we have some tough games coming up, but there are also some VERY winnable games as well and this team needs to start taking those wins from now on. No more losses like the Philly game. The next 3 are tough DET, PHX & LAC. After that tho, the teams are beatable. SAC, POR, SEA, PHI, CHA, SAC, WAS & NJ. We have to start pulling out wins against some of these teams that aren't that tough. Most of these teams can't defend at all. We have 4 months to settle this rotation, improve this record and really Jell. If Isiah can't make that happen, then to me he should be fired. It's the 1st time we've really caught a break and we MUST take advantage of that.

David Lee says they can do it. I agree with him. We are just a PG away from being a really decent team :)
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

I think we can do it as well. Only problem is this little bump in our schedule called the Pistons and a long road trip. While I think by the end of the season we should be in first place I see us losing a good portion of these next few games. 12-23 anyone?

12-23 and you guys would seriously be satisfied by winning the Atlantic and you'd say "I told you they can do it!" WOW If they are 12-23, one would hope that they'd be at the bottom of the pits, but challenging first place with that record is unjustifiable.

I didnt say anything about telling anybody something, im just saying we have a rough stretch in front of us and I think our record might suffer. I still see us winning about 37-40 games by the end of the season, which sucks but at least we can get some playoff experience for our young players, and more importantly, at least now WE HAVE some young players and can look forward to us improving after this season.

I can't remember a weaker division in all my years.

What a gift.

My standard will be overall record and not winning this crap of a division via Backing Into the Division Title.

If they aren't considerably better than the 03-04 team then this season will be an absolute failure. So if they win this division and the record is 35-47, 36-46, then stick a fork in this team. We'll just be repeating the overwhelming failure of the 03-04 season.

nets lose krstic for the year. (maybe they end up with webber)
boston loses pierce for 3 weeks. (they'll probably lose in the interim and will finally trade him)
philly just dumped iverson. (and probably will buy out webber - smart move and are in tank mode)

now...i just want to bring some attention to toronto (who i've been following for the past few years). they lost bosh to a bad knee on december 8th. they were 7-12 at the time. since then, they went 5-4 (without bosh). they just finished a 4 game west coast trip 2-2 without bosh/calderon (their backup pg) and garbajosa (for 1 game). their offense is running pretty smooth with tj ford at the point. and he's slowly becoming their on court leader. he still takes some questionable shots but his drive is rubbing off on his teammates. it's only his 3rd season (as he missed an entire year b/c of the back injury). so if/when they get bosh back, along with the growth of bargnani, they will be hanging around all year. it's quite an interesting way to build a team. they play no defense but colangelo brought in guys that played in europe, along with a true point guard, and they play unselfish and move the ball around. it will be interesting to see how that team develops. but i digress...

like blueseats said, this division is probably the weakest atlantic the knicks have ever been a part of (at least over the past 20 years) so the division is there for the taking.

While the division is weak as all get out. It does offer something for our younger guys to shoot for.

If this were a veteran ball club; then I'd be more concerned. Our key players that are keeping us at a potential level to get to .500 ball are our young players. Curry and Q are doing better this year also. Crawford... still spotty.

If they keep fighting (the young one's) to get this team to respectability (as in winning a winable Atlantic division with a slightly below .500 record or slightly above); then I can see it as a positive for them, when the next season roles around.

This is a team that has to learn to get to play ball at a .500 level before we can take it to the next term.

If we didn't have the Atlantic to fight for (as ugly as the division is...); then we might not see this team showing fight in some of these games, and games in the future.

A very bad Atlantic division (worst than years past) is a blessing in disguise.

36 wins and a playoff berth/division title for a team with a very young nucleaus that is rebuilding is a huge step in the right direction. If we had a bunch of older vets as our nucleaus it would be different. But at this point our best players are all 26 and under. I could see 23 wins last year as the bottom. 36 wins this year as the turnaround and 42 wins next year

YOu totally don't get at all SugarRayRobinson. Let me break down for you.
1)Kick dirt on Isiah
2)Kill Curry
3)Spit on Marbury
4)Bring up players not on the Knicks that should be
5)Make progress

I don't think anyone is looking for the team to end up with a bad record, but the thing is that if they can get to the playoffs even if they are a little under .500, that would be a GOOD thing for this developing team. I think some of us have to realize that it's VERY hard to take a team from the horror show it was last year and turn it around. YES we have the kind of talent that should be winning more games, but that's a team development issue. These guys have to come together and learn how to win with each other. We practically had no base to build from after last year and that's part of the problem.

Now we've been given a HUGE opportunity to take advantage of our weak div. I just want to see that actually happen. Toronto is a team that will be there all year, but still I think we should be able to pass them if this team keeps growing together.

Well we are 12-18 now. If we play 500 for the remaining games we will end up 38-44. That would be great!

Of course.

I think the distinction being drawn is that while it might be good for the team it doesn't indicate that the team is good.

And to win a basketball game, you need to score more than the opponent. Too bad the they can't do it either.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Sorry to say this , but the Philadelphia 76ers will recover and excel after trading away a ballhog superstar in ALLEN IVERSON.

I watched both of Philly's game since the trade and they look excited and intrested in playing with each other again.

They have 2 guys to protect the basket in Dalembert and Steven Hunter.

Igudola with Andre Miller (pass 1st pg)this team has put together a nice nucleus with korver being the long range shoother with webber down low threat.

Miller will be an extension of the coach on the sideline.

With kristic out in NJ and NewYork having too many players who do the same thing with no perimitter or post defensive chemistry.

Philly sits under the radar right now with LB lurking in the background trying to give them sound judgement in which way they should go.

LB will show all of PHILLY what he wanted to try and do in NY by getting rid of high salaried aging pg(marbury).

Andre Miller will complete any team needing a past 1st pg.

IMHO
Philly did well in the AI trade.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

git em zeke
