Artest For Maggette All Over Again?
24th December, 2006 - 10:26 am
Los Angeles Times -

A high-ranking source within the Clippers organization told the Los Angeles Times on Saturday that the club was discussing a deal with the Kings for Ron Artest.

The Clippers attempted to acquire Artest last season when he sought a deal out of Indiana. This season, he apparently wants out of Sacramento.

Similar to the situation last season, the Clippers would send Corey Maggette in exchange for Artest.

The two teams held discussions on Friday and they are expected to resume on Sunday. [READ]

Ron Artest
6-7 SF from St. John's

Change in team outlook: +3.3 ppg, +2.0 rpg, and -0.2 apg.

Sacramento Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Ron Artest
6-7 SF from St. John's

14.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.8 apg in 32.3 minutes
Change in team outlook: -3.3 ppg, -2.0 rpg, and +0.2 apg.

Successful Scenario
Due to New York and Sacramento being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Sacramento had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

You guys can want Artest till the cows come home, but although he fulfills needs, all the negative that comes with him far outweighs the positive, and it's a guy we should stay away from. He's not a good teammate to have.

Yeah Ron is a great player he just isn't committed to the right things. The team needs a defensive presence in the paint or perimeter shooter that plays respectable defense.

Bringing Artest back home to NY would be disasterous. He would party like its 1999 every day. Knicks would be secondary and he would ask for a vacation because he is tired from promoting his next rap release. This guy is a solid basketball player but lets face it he is a nut case.

I think Artest is one of those guys you take a chance on though. top notch defender with a decent offensive game too, and importantly for us he can hit a J.

I don't see Sacramento or the Clippers wanting to trade players like Artest or Maggette for Jamal Crawford.

i've fallen out of love with ron-ron. i'll still root for him as a native of queens but it seems like he's just not a team player. chucks up too many 3s now and don't think he would help the locker room out.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Artest is poison in the locker room. I would love his defense but he wouldnt be worth the headache.

You get 6 moths with Ron before he wears out his welcome.

Isiah would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would save his job, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

^^^ YOu just named 50 percent of the leagues motives............... what's your point???? He's a great player???

Riley would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would get him a ship, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Jackson would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would get him close to a ship, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Rivers would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would save his job, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Karl would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would make him a title contender, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Mike Brown would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would save make him a finals contender, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Van Gundy would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would save his job, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Stotts would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would save his job, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Casey would probably love to get him just for the short-term boost, which would save his job, then ship Ron off before the bottom falls out.

Not every one of those guys has been given a one season ultimatum. Only Riley is also both coach and GM. And not every one of those guys has a history with Ron that makes them think they can handle him.

IOW, while coaches always want to add talent, there may not be so many GMs wanting to take the risk.

For instance, while everyone in the league had some interest in Iverson, only a few thought it worth fielding meaningful offers.

nate and crawford for him, see if they will take it, maybe they move bibby and get something for him, not worth keeping they need to start over, and it maybe a good move to go with a crawford martin backcourt.....

tho i'd love to get artest, the fact that the knicks already have 2 defensive minded 3's (balkmania and JJeffries) combined with the blatantly obvious truth that artest is far and away the nuttiest player in the Association makes me hesitant to pull the trigger.
