give me a break. You yourself said that you really can't judge progress until about a year is over, and you and I well know that it is doubly so for PGs, especially first year ones.
Actually what I wrote was that a few weeks of exceptional play every season doesn't equal progress, and for it to really be called progress, you have to maintain that level of exceptional play. Such as Deron Williams breaking out at the end of last season and continuing it this season.
Look at Deron up in Utah. Started horribly and was benched and yo-yo'ed so many times last year. Some times it is for the better of the team, some times it is for the betterment of the player. The Nets are STRUGGLING in a weak Atlantic division, so don't you think the coach is NOT going to give minutes to his rookies (in favor of development) so that he can get some wins playing the vets?
Deron Williams was a fantasy pick of mine last year and he is on both my teams this year. He did start not horribly last year, unless you consider scoring 12Pts/13 assists, 18/4, 16/9, 17/3, 14/9, 11/8, 5/7, 13/5, 14/3, 18/5 in November starting horribly.
Deron Williams was a pretty good rookie, he slumped as any rookie might, then he finished the year strongly. Big difference between he and M Williams is he always played defense. Another big difference is that D. Williams looks to pass first while M Williams more often looks to score for himself (Just what we need!).
In any case, I am not sure what your reply to me has to do with my reply to Big C. Big C wrote that he believe that Williams would be better than any of our guards given the minutes and I am pointing out to him that Williams IS already getting the minutes and he is not better than our PG's. If you want to say that it is because he is a rookie, that's fine, I wasn't getting into why he is not better. I thought we were talking about this year and what he could do on this team with our guard injury problems, not next year or any other year.

Please don't tell me he is not getting minutes because he is. In fact, I haven't seen a PG put in a better position to succeed in years. He is playing 18 minutes per game behind one of the top 3 PG's in the game who is mentoring him, he has finishers galore, and he has not had to fight for his spot or playing time.
Marcus Williams is quite talented. He also would not be doing better on this team, this year, than any of our PG's, given the same amount of minutes they play. I think his play thus far has made that quite clear.
