But seriously, it will be interesting to see how the fans react. Will it galvanize them, or will the Fire Isiah chants be on a short leash?

I think the fans could come out more supportive of ever. But if we go down 20 points quick all that goodwill shall be lost forever.

for the most part, fans come out to cheer every game. but yes, if they go down 20 at any point, it may get ugly.

i will say this, if isiah was suspended and herb williams was introduced as the coach, he would get the loudest cheer of the night.

Building a team at this level of talent, ego and competition is no easy task. Isiah Thomas has been villified at MSG, in the media and on this Forum. He is neither the Prince of Darkeness, nor the Prince of Tides. He is a coach who evidently has the confidence of his players. Monday night would have been less surprising if the team had given up instead of achieving their best win of the season.


Thomas says he has confidence in the team he assembled, and there's some evidence it's grounded in reality. To whatever extent it's true, Isiah's belief and focus seems to be tying the team together. Last night they played without two of the key glue guys, Q and Jeffries, and didn't come apart. Listening to both Lee and Marbury about that brilliant pass at the end of overtime made it clear it wasn't an abberation, rather born of endless practice sessions.


The big question for (this) Forum, and obviously for the Knicks, is whether we have serious personnel to build a contending, at least competitive team?

At best, it's going to take a while to find the answer; maybe a few trades or draft choices, but as a certified pom-pom, I'm more encouraged than not.
