People love to quote the intangible things that don't show up in the box score and THIS is supposed to be home to some of the most knowledgable basketball fans on the plane and I KNOW its only one game and it's only the Atlanta Hawks BUT

All signs were pointing to another Knick loss. In come the swooping Hawks, who despite losing their last three games by 13,25 and 11 are looking to dig their talons into the soft Knicks underbelly. But it would not be. High flying dunk artist Josh Smith would be contained and the Hawks offense stiffled by the defensive dynamo who can guard anyone and any position.

Enter JJSkinny.

Taking over the starting role of a guy averaging 11/9 and shooting 64% JJ knew he had to contribute.

"I knew I had to contribute" said JJ.

Great win for Isiah. This should calm concerns over the slow start.

the thing that impressed me the most was how he ran the defense, makes sense because he also played in the same system at Indiana that Isiah is implementing.

There were times when atlanta couldn't even get off a shot. And he was in the paint directing the defense around him.

I love lee, and I agree with isiah, the second unit is now The Unit in the league.

It was atlanta, so who cares.

Yeah, for at least one game it looks our hopes were realized. Many had thought that the addition of JJ2 would boost the defense and I think we were right. He is like Balkman but with more experience and passing ability. High energy, solid defender, and moves well without the ball. With Lee back on the second unit, the team finally might have some balance between the two units.

He looked good last night no question, but it was against the hawks so you need to take that into account, but he brought some nice thing to the table, as long as he continues to help off the ball and do some little things he will be a big asset

Still would love Smith for Frye, that guy blocks anything around the rim

“He’s a very special defender,” Curry said. “He’s out there talking, he’s got everybody in the right spots on defense, he pretty much runs our zone. He’s a very smart player.”

Don't look at me. Go read the threads when the Knicks signed Jeffries and the threads I created about him before then, you'll find a lot of people questioning the move but not me(many said he wasn't that good on defense, his offense was horrible and wouldn't do a thing for us), I had wanted him since last December.

I don't need to create threads about his varied contributions to rub it all in your faces but I did make several posts about the topic last night.

Funny how certain people post only after wins against depleted opponents. Jared played well, but let's see more than 20 minutes of action against a team with no 4. Let's see how he handles Boozer and Jermaine Oneal

I already sang Jeffries praises. I love what he did last night, all the little things, and he is another ball handler and passer out there. I don't care who we beat, last time I checked the Hawks were a NBA franchise. So I will take the win....

And don't be fooled, we outsized the hawks, curry was just too much along with jeffries. Sit those two down and the Hawks even without joe Johnson could give us a hell of a run. that hawks team is more tired than anything, theyhave talent....

I agree with Briggs, if he does this against some of the good teams , maybe the knicks can win more games

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

i think Jefferies could've done what he did last night as the starting SF... still don't agree at all w/D Lee coming off the bench... Jefferies will get pushed around down low against more physical PF's than what the Hawks had to offer, watch.

Jefferies should be starting at the 3 & D Lee at the 4.

The Hawks have won the last few games against us with their out of this world athleticism. With Jeffries on the floor, we showed a different dimension. His height and long arms changed the complexion of a game and neutralized Josh Smith's impact.

Two big plays were his saves on balls going out of bounds. Most players wouldn't have been able to make those plays, simply put. Those amounted to two big possessions that helped us maintain momentum.

playa - you ever think the young Knicks can win more games once they learn from their mistakes, and eventually trust one other?

Jeffries is only one piece of the puzzle

I don't want to downplay a win, but their team had no JJ and Josh Childress. We did use the zone which worked well again and they should use it much more. Let other teams figure it out before you get out of it.

another thing i liked about jefferies last night was how he was directing his team mates on where to be on defense...he was the defensive leader last night
''We don't have the luxury to take anybody lightly,'' New York's Quentin Richardson said. ''We're not that good.''

I think JJ did a great job last night. I get upset because the best players arent starting. Expect about 8 pts and 5 rebs a game from JJ what he did last night isnt the norm.
