Bulls, T-Wolves discuss Garnett trade

Monday, Dec 11, 2006 10:04 am EST

The Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves have had preliminary talks about a trade involving forward Kevin Garnett, who has no problem with the speculation. Garnett grew up in South Carolina, but spent his senior year in high school in Chicago.

The trade could include Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas and possibly a first-round pick going to Minnesota.

The thought of Big Ben and KG playing next to each other is scary for most teams in the east.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

You know that first round pick will be ours this year.

So you can add Minnesota to the list of teams that we've helped since Isiah got here.

A year or two? Riiigggghhhttt. Um, at least three or four. Neither player has broken down (KG is slowing a tiny bit, but has some good years ahead of him), and there's still a nice young core.

ok. maybe three (but Wallace's impact will go down sharply over the next two years). doubtful they win a chip in that time though. Then, they have all that salary still tied up and have gotten rid of Deng, Thomas, and probably another good young player.

I don't like that trade for Chicago. Garnett needs another superstar. Otherwise, it's just like minny. He should go to the Lakers or the Nets. Those are two places he could really go for the championship.

in essence, it's a semi-all in type of move.

it still leaves the bulls with hinrich, duhon, sefolosha, and nocioni as the 26 and under crew.

but isn't that what accumulating pieces is all about? get a bunch of kids, play them together, pump up their stock and if none of them are a franchise player, you package them to get one.

kg is as big a franchise player as you can get via a trade. so that pushed them right into the top 1 or 2 to get out of the east and into the finals.

if anything there's more of a chance the pick remains ours if that deal goes through, since the TWolves will probably go to crap w/o KG on the team.

Nice catch.....in that case, this trade might help us.

one would assume it would be the higher pick, be it chicago's or ny. so what would be traded was the bulls pick or the option to swap. pick order is only valid for the team's OWN pick. minnesota has their own pick (or traded it to the clips for jaric) so they would be acquiring chicago's pick so it depends on CHICAGO'S record, not their own.

example: we traded nazr for both of san antonio's picks. those picks were based on the spurs record, not ours.

I don't think that's the way it works fellas. The Bulls will trade their first round pick to the Wolves. They wouldn't be trading the right to switch picks with the Knicks. What would likely happen is that the season would play out, and then the Bulls would either send our pick or the their own pick depending on which is better.

They cant send our pick if they dont have it. They could only send the rights to which ever pick they have. Minny is going to demand a lot more than discussed. Plus the Bulls dont have cap room. KG is a 21 mill player. The players discussed add up to 5 mill. They would have to include around another 15 mill in salary. The bulls players salaries outside Ben Wallace and PJ Brown are all around the 3 mill level. It would have to include PJ and others.
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

Agreed. Chicago is great for three or four years, and in my view, possibly wins THREE championships in that time. Then they're a perrenial playoff contender for the next few after that. Nothing wrong with that.

meh. KG is not a dominant player in the post on offense and he's slowing down ever so slightly on defense, as is Big Ben. Chicago would still live and die on the offense with the play of their guards.

If Bulls get KG (and I think its crap), but if they did, WOW

Big Ben
KG
Nocioni
Gordon
Hinrich

VS.

Big Ben
Sheed
Prince
Rip
Billups

Almost identical, and I'd probly take Chicago...
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.
