Hey. I'm actually not knocking his drafting, for the most part. I just don't believe (like some others do) that his drafting comes anywhere near cancelling out all the other damage he's done to this franchise. It's kind of like whipped cream ontop of dog crap. Look a little closer and it's still dog crap.
from what i could tell, the point of this thread was to say that Isiah's picks have been nothing but role players, not allstars... do you honestly believe that D Lee won't progress to being an Allstar level player in a year or 2? i know you're not crazy about Balkman but i happen to think he's got some potential to be in that discussion too w/some more work on his game... Nate & Mardy are likely going to remain as role players for their careers, but what do you expect to get out of late 1st round picks? Isiah's had 1 high lottery pick & he used it on Channing Frye... last season there were people on this forum making Tim Duncan comparisons (ridiculous)... this season they're calling him a role player at best (also ridiculous imo)... i think Frye can be Allstar material if he can stay healthy & get that mobility back that he had last season along w/his jumpshot... he needs to be on the floor to grow as a player, but he's got the talent to be very good.
I absolutely do not see David Lee as an all-star, no. I think he's a very exciting player, but we've already seen that he does have some struggles against the stronger PFs. David Lee has convinced me that he's going to be a good starter or superior sixth man, which is more than I thought on draft day, I'll say that. All-star? Considering Marcus Camby never made an all-star game, and he was better than Lee, I'm not sure Lee will either. Balkman, I'm not convinced Balkman is a starter yet. I think the Shandon Anderson comparison was accurate, though Balkman may be a little better (too early to tell), but Balkman will be an exciting sixth man type of player, and borderline starter in my view.
Good players to have... put them around Tim Duncan and you'd see some real magic. Put them around Eddy Curry and I'm just not convinced that that takes us to the promised land, sorry.
As for Frye, my draft-day opinion was him as a backup center. I think that's his best role. He gets plastered by starting PFs. Backup centers tend to get drafted in the late first round. That's where Frye was projected before Isiah gave him the promise... suddenly he jumps to #8. The sad part is, if Isiah kept his mouth shut about how much he liked Frye, who knows... maybe he would've been there at #21? If not, I would've been fine with Petro.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
