What would be your scouting report so far on Balkman? Ive only been able to really watch 3 games so far cause ive been working crazy amount of hours. I try to pick up whats going on by reading these boards from time to time and looking at box scores.

I saw some of the Celtics game and some of the Bulls game. I saw a that nasty dunk by Balkman on that fast break. He can finish.

So what would his scouting report be and what type of potential do you guys feel he has. Does he look like he is cappable of expanding his game? Or is he only hustle?

He's more than hustle. He's versatile. He's got good (but not great) ball-handling and passing and decent shot-blocking. His jumpshot is decent too. I liked Ariza but he's WAY ahead of Ariza already.

He looks like Spree with some 3 point pop. That's the easy description.

More in depth:
Good weak side shot blocker.
Better handle than average
Above average defender, could gain to use another 10-15 pounds. If he adds that weight he can still defend the 2, 3, 4 position. Possibly the 5 in long spurts.
Has some range. Can shoot the 3, but he shouldn't be the first option for it.
Extremely Quick.
Offensively still very raw.
Rebounds well.
I personally don't think he scores well when driving in traffic. Mostly because of his low weight, needs to be able to absorb a hit better.

The Burning Question

can Balkman play the two guard and provide a defensive advantage guarding most teams best scorers?

Just think Doug Christie without the overbearing old lady in the stands

he's got a little bit of a charles barkley in him because he plays bigger than he his (guarded Yao), can board in traffic and move it up court and make the smart pass.

There was one pass he made in transition that was a sick

Briggs - I think David Lee could develop a dependable mid range shot. Frye already has range and needs to develop confidence in the people getting him the ball. I like his leadership qualities.

Otherwise, you make a good point... Jamal is way too streaky and will always be so until he matures...

an Allan Houston clone would be nice.

KG even better

If getting KG means Marbury would stay, I don't want him.

getting KG will mean losing guys like Q Rich, David Lee &/or Renaldo Balkman in all probability... & just like Rich, if it means Marbury's here to stay then i don't want any part of KG either.

I can't see IT sacrificing Lee and Balkman -- they're among the only good things he's done for this franchise, and proof of IT's only true talent, scouting (other than playing PG back in the day). Perhaps we can gift Marbury to Minnesota for a bag of balls?
The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

newyorknewyork, the kid is obviously alot better than alot of people thought he was on this board... he's not simply an athletic guy who plays defense & can run the floor & finish... he's a demon on the boards, he makes great decisions w/the ball when leading the fastbreak, he's a very good passer & ballhandler for a guy his size, & his hustle & energy rubs off on the other guys on the floor when he's got it going... he's the type of player that can impact a game even when he's not scoring, & that's the type of player i've always wanted more of on this team.

I like the spree comparision, but he is not a good shooter, although he has made a few shots so far, i love the way he gets the ball up the court, mirrors sprewells game.

If ******* could figure out that lee and balkman should always be on the floor together other teams might never get a rebound.

the most surprising thing about him is that he can hit that open 3 pointer in the corner w/relative consistency... if he gets that shot downpat & develops a move to get to the hole off the dribble, this kid can be really, really good... looks like he's got a great attitude & his teammates really enjoy playing w/him, which says alot about his work ethic as well.
