Miami coach Pat Riley believes the Heat are a bad defensive team. They'll get a chance to prove him wrong when they host the New York Knicks on Friday night.

The Heat (3-4) are coming off a 112-105 home loss to Denver on Tuesday, their second straight at AmericanAirlines Arena and third in five games there this season.

Miami has been outscored by an average of 12.4 points at home, and its four losses have been by an average of 20.0 points. The Heat are allowing opponents to score 99.9 points a contest.

"We can't stop anybody right now," Riley said. "Right now we have to almost be perfect to win."

Part of the problem for the Heat has been Shaquille O'Neal's absence from the paint. O'Neal missed his third game of the season Tuesday, and Miami has allowed 102.0 points in losing two of those contests.

"We can't get them back," forward Udonis Haslem said. "They're gone now. We have no excuse. We're not playing well and we know it."

O'Neal's status for Friday is uncertain. He missed Tuesday's game because of a hyperextended knee after sitting out two earlier games with a bruised knee.

This could be a huge game for us........ If we win i see this as a berakthrough game.. If we get blown out.. its deff back in the dumps... We HAVE to keep it at least close... I see our guys being FIRED UP tonight.........

LETS GO!!!!!!!!!! TONIGHT IS A BIG ONE!!!!!!!!!!!

If we win that makes us 4-6 and on our way back to respectability... With the possibility of a win streak ahead of us!!!!

With or without shaq if we can win this game it will go a long way in swaying my opinion on this team. Every time I think they are turning a corner, we get hit with a double digit loss over the past couple of years.

Word in South Florida is that Shaquille O’Neal is ready to return after missing three games with a bad knee. He practiced yesterday with the Heat and Pat Riley believes the oversized middleman is ready to get back in the game.

Jason Williams is expected to play tonight as well, giving the Heat five healthy starters for the first time all season.

I was just looking at the standings. We're 3-6 while Chicago is 3-5. It's a long shot, but a very meaningful season goal would be to get a better record than the Bulls. If we play like we did against Washington, we can do it.

my expert opinion of looking at thousands of pictures like this online says you are correct.

I got a kick out of this quote from Matt Dougherty's blog:
