you cant worry about MArbury and Francis. Right now they are untradable. What you do is make a goal and set a date. That date should be the end of the 07/08 season when Franbury expires.

Your goal is simple.. aquire as many picks and young guys as possible up to that point. This way your looking at an offseason with substantial cap space maximum flexiblity, and a roster full of young guys. most in their rookie deals.

The two guys I'm looking to move first are Q and Crawford. I think Q's value right now is at its highest. He defends, plays hard everynight and is average 14/7 on > 50%. The team that jumps out is Denver. They have two first rounders they can trade us and Q fits in perfectly. Plus they have expiring deal in Joe Smith. Another guy that helps is Reggie Evans.

The other guy is Crawford. Q and Crawford's contract run past Franbury and start to baloon so thats my motivation. Possibly Crawford and Jeffries to the Lakers for Kwame/Mihm and at least one first rounder. That gives Phil a long defender that doesnt need the ball in JJSkinny and Crawford can get Bynum some easy looks and spot up when Kobe has the ball the other 80 possesions.

What your looking at at that point is probably 3 additional first rounders (probably with some protection).

What your also looking at is Frye moving to the bench and Curry playing next to a dominating rebounder in Evans, which should boost both of their value. We will never get what we paid for Curry, but if the package is right I'm happy to move away from a guy with his issues.

2 years after this one. Exactly the impossible amount of time it would have taken to just draft and watch Houston, Shandon, Eisley, Spoon, KT come off the books.

I love the part about moving those guys fishmike, but how are they gonna sell those $2000 seats with no name youngsters and no immediate plan ?
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

it sounds like a pipedream as in they'll never do it here in "sell-a-jersey-land." i'd go a step fruther. i'd send marbury and francis home right now. say bye-bye and see if some other team wants to pick them up. what's the deal with kwame's contract?/ how long/much? need to figure that in before considering. and who are you bringing in to gm to pull this off? and who's poisoning dolan's tea so it happens?

Franbury doesn't expire until after the 08/09 season. It's a 3 year plan, not a two year plan. Big problem is that the first batch of kids (Fyre, Lee, Nate) will be up for free agency that year, and will require large raises if we want to keep them. Additionally, yes, we have to shed at least one of Craw, Jeffries, Q to have enough cap room to make a major move.

Quite frankly, I would be very willing to trade Frye and say Q to the Bulls to get our draft pick back for this season (plus any contracts that expire by 08/09 that they want to throw at us). Doing so now, while getting Oden is just going to be potluck in lottery balls, and us continuing to do poorly.. they might go for it. Waiting until the trade deadline, when teams will have a much better idea where they'll be in the lottery, they might not.

Thoughts?
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

are they selling now? Have you seen the Garden? 50x $40 seats = 1 $2000 seat. Those seats up there are empty. Knicks are 1000s short of a sellout everynight, and nobody is watching this team. What jersey's are selling? You know Greg Oden (see Tim Duncan) has pretty much said he's staying in school for a couple years. You go out and draft some guys that just play hard and defend each night and the fans will come.

Short term? Market Nate. Feature him in the offense. He's a good scorer and makes plays and cant be guarded one on one. He's fun!

2 years after this... Franbury has 2 years after this year.

Lee, Nate and Frye will be due for extensions but none of them are max players. If they are then great... we have franchise talent after all. I'm just letting them sit and matching any offer they recieve when they are RFAs. Worst case? We know we arent overpaying.

Dolan needs to realize there is no championship all star caliber talent on this team.

Curry isn't ever going to be on the same level as shaq, kobe, duncan or wade.

If he was, he would have shown it by now- five years in this league is enough time.

I would add to the rebuild mix moving this year's pick from Chicago to Utah to clear out our obligation- I believe it is unrestricted/unprotected in a few years.

If you could do that, then I wouldn't mind trading Lee or Frye to clear out Franbury and fielding an NBDL team and winning 6 games next year.

Dolan did this with the Rangers
Worked nice and fast
Why not with the Knicks?

We need to dump 40 mill of slowing aging overpaid pgs now for contracts that end 1-2 years sooner no matter what crap we take back. as these guys get worse their contracts keep going up. Next year they will be impossible to move. This year they arent. Isiah even said people have called about Francis
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

Fish, seems like we discussed this like 3 years ago before the prophet Isiah decended upon us to lead the choosen to the promised land.

WE are choosen to suffer. Suffer you will, suffer deep and one day don a Brooklyn jersey with a championship.

This is a broadway show is our knicks. The "Lying King"!!!! Larry was the (Muffassa)king, but Scar (isiah) did him in. Pumba is eddy, the weasel thing is Crawford, and of course Nate is Simba.

This is silly.

Tear it down again?? Seems the more things change, the more they stay the same.

It's a corporation that needs instant profits. They'll probably get a new GM and he'll use the young guys as assets to pull off another "Marbury type trade" that temporarily re-generates enthusiasm and sales.

Solace is right, Franbury doesn't expire until 08/09. Your looking at RealGM and they count the last year of someones contract as year 0.

I would try to convince Dolan that he needs to view Marbury's and Francis's contracts as sunk costs and buy them out Their presence is retarding this team's ability to develop.

Problem is that's really the case for about six or seven guys on the roster.

No. Isiah did. Dolan did not call up the Suns offering that idiotic trade. Dolan did not call up the Magic and offer Ariza and Penny's expiring contract.

if we really want to rebuild, then it is IMPERATIVE to trade crawford, quentin, and curry. like fish said, their contracts balloon the years after francis and marbury. and i think we can move them for shorter deals, and possibly acquire a pick or young player in the process. now that takes away 2 of our better lockerroom presences but in the end, it's what's best for the team long term. if only our pick wasn't traded away this year...
This can be torn down and rebuilt...
