I was impressed with his defense and energy. Not the same player I saw playing god-awful in summer league. If he can bring defense and a team mentality, at the backup PG (something we haven't had since Frank Williams), then he might be a good fit after all.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

He should be starting. He is the only selfless PG the Knicks have. He has no scoring ego so he will be content in getting other involved. Guys like Channing can benefit from a player like Mardy.

This is the reason IT drafted him. Mardy can defend the 1 and 2 and can run the point. He looked bad in preseason because he has no outside shot, which still seems to be the case. But the kid can play.

Marcus and Marty would be better than what we have, along with nate and another big guard would be nice, I liked the things he did last night....

he had a nice showing last night... too bad there's not much of a role w/the logjam at the G positions... let's see if Isiah has the balls to bench 1 of his "stars" & let guys like Nate & Collins get more burn on a consistent basis.

Was at the game with my friend last night and I was BLOWN AWAY by Collins play. When he flat out TOOK his man off the dribble and straight to the rack a few times my jaw dropped. I recalled his summer-league play, which was what caused the shock.

He's EASILY our best defensive PG and I was impressed with his tenacity on both ends. That one play where he stripped, I think it was Brent Barry or Ginobli, and then ran down the court to get fouled after making a layup had the MSG crowd going crazy. We definitely have to watch his development closely, because he could turn out to be a keeper.

He needs to work on his FT shooting though, as does Balkman, and I'm not sure about his passing, just yet.

yeah, i think so too... hopefully Mardy doesn't have Frank's lack of motivation to stay in shape... doesn't look that way to me though

Yeah Mardy is not gonna eat his way out of the league like Frank did. I'm not sure Mardy can get into the lane as often as Frank either, but he's got better height, and is gonna be a very good defender. He's the perfect complement to Nate in many ways. I like seeing that backcourt.

I liked the way Mardy played, he actually has a head out there on the court. Right now, Mardy is the Knicks best PG and if Isiah wants a CHANCE of keeping his job, he should be playing Mardy because he makes good decisions with the ball, plays good defense and hustles his @$$ off.

Like I posted before and you accused me of having an agenda: Summer league/pre-season means nothing.

wow, ur jumping the gun on Mardy there bro... let's see him play a longer stretch of effective minutes & be effective orchestrating on the offensive end before we call him our best PG... i'd sooner call Nate our best & most consistent PG based on the way they've been playing this season than Mardy.

Nate doesn't run an offense, the only reason people call him a PG is becuase of his height. Ne is a great creator and is an excellent 1on1 player, thats what he does best. There is no way I would let Nate run a structured offense because I don't think he'd be able to do it. Mardy knows how to run an offense.

Nate's been great and Mardy was nice last night too, but in no way should they be our best guards of any kind. They should both be real solid bench players. Just goes to show how poorly the backcourt has been that nyk4ever even came up with a statement like that. It shouldn't even be close (It really isn't, but maybe not that far.)

In my eyes though, Mardy earned some playing time for the game against Denver, along with Malik. Starters? No. But definitely more playing time. Same with Balkman. Make Crawfranbury sit more until they get their heads in it. Obviously salary isn't an issue either, as Isiah said himself, so logic would say this is what should happen right now.

People need to stop disrespecting Nate the Great. :) Looking at the numbers, he's got awesome production. On a different team (with a true-SG!) Nate could be stealing the show with his vintage Steve Francis-type game.

Unfortunately for him, the Knicks are seriously loaded w/ scoring guards (including the real Steve Francis!), none of whom are top-notch pure shooters. They're all slashers.

It's an interesting dilemma. I think the Knicks have the tools/tradable commodities to get some superstars in here.
I think all the GMs around the league are looking at the Knicks as a team of mis-matched parts; I think many of us are in agreement that our guards don't fit right--- nor do our two young big men (Frye/Curry).

Back to Mardy Collins-- If he had a half-way decent jumper, he'd be a great pair for Crawford/Marbury/Francis/Robinson with his defense and basic, fundamental play.
