Guys were saying the same thing last year. Hell, I remember saying it. "Just be patient." We all know how that turned out.
While I'm not ready to give up on the season I can understand why some are so negative after five years of sucky Knicks basketball.
There's a difference. For one thing I think that we honestly have some players who are in a bit of early slump. I think we didn't expect that Frye would be this bad, Jamal would be this bad and Steph would be this bad. However, I can see some light at the end of the tunnel. This was a GREAT teaching experience, cuz the Spurs are a machine and trying to defend them is hard a heck. The knicks started to see that it can be done tho. That's going to be some GREAT film for them to study. The lessons in effort level and smart play. They can see how smart the Spurs played as well.
These games against the Pacers and Spurs are two teams that have been thru the wars and they know exactly what to do. We haven't been thru anything yet and this team has to jell. Eventually this team is gonna adjust to this level of play and I think these early tough games will prove to be a GOOD thing for this team. They aren't just quitting and getting blown out. They at least are fighting and getting back into the games, but they don't know how to close yet. The thing is that the team is FIGHTING BACK.
There are some positive developments that we didn't have last year.
1. Curry seems to be much better this year. If Steph and Francis would pass him the ball he'd be even better
2. We have a good defender in reserve, in Jared and some good defenders on the bench. Isiah just has to learn how to best work them into his rotations.
3. The offense has been terrible, but as guys like Steph and Jamal start to snap out of it, that will only help this team as we move along. I think Steph and Jamal have been too passive. Nate has the right idea and I think the film will show them that.
4. Q, Lee and Balkman have shown a lot so far and I think they'll only get better as they get more comfortable. Collins actually impressed and that was a good sign. He wasn't scared and did what we brought him here to do. Defend and not turn the ball over
I know the loss is tough, but these are some underlying good signs.
