Drafting Skita was pretty much his only real blunder. Did a good job of getting out from Raef/McDyess/Van Ex and stockpiling a lot of picks. Cleared out a lot of space and brought in Camby, Nene, Dre Miller, KMart and of course drafted Melo.

Bottom line is there was a plan and he stuck to it for awhile... put that team in pretty good position.

Good point Fish. I'm not entirely in love with getting Kiki but he proved to be a pretty good GM and your right, he had a plan and he stuck with it. He hasn't been the greatest drafter in the world(see Skita as you mentioned and Carmelo was a no-brainer move) but he has proved he can stockpile players, WITH A PLAN, through trades and signings. I'd give him a shot but only if Jerry Calangelo and Jerry West decline.

....and he's a former knick.

but if we dump isiah, we must take our time and do our due diligence. just make sure we have a gm in place for the draft next year.

real bad... I would have gone for Nellie part II but he's got his gig in GS

If it was offseason I would try to lure Thorn or Petrie with sick Garden money.

If we are in fantasy world - what about a couch?
If IT will go we will need something too.

He took Nene over Amare.

He won't be able to replicate the Camby/McDyess trade because he won't find an emasculated GM in NY to trade with.

To me, Kiki is like Grunfeld. He may well be a step up from what we have, but on balance, he's mediocre.

Rich.. so did 8 other teams, and remember, Amare only worked out for 1 team, the Suns. Plus he had several background issues. I cant blame teams for passing on a guy who's mother is incarcerated and wont give you a workout.

Talk bandaid all you want. This team picked up right where it left off last year. No defense and no rebounding. Curry has played well, but only on one side of the ball. Frye's role in SL has been reduced to a jump shooting bigman that doesnt rebound and cant guard his position. Isiah has major issues and watch the line up tinkering begin.

Kinda ironic to see Isiah go Larry during the Hawks game and put Kato and Malik out there with Curry and Franbury.

Look... this isnt a "get Kiki!!!" song and dance. I was just trying to think options that fit for us and a guy thats executed a plan thats fit for us, and Kiki's resume fits the bill.

I think Kiki is a smart guy. I dont know who else is out there
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

How about we hire Kiki only to fix our cap situation and get us draft picks. Then bring in someone else that would know how to use cap space and draft picks to build a contender.

You know someone like me.

And Red Aurebach took Mel Counts over Willis Reed.

No GM--not the best in the history of the league--will build a winning team under this ownership. When ownership tells you you have to instantly make the playoffs and bring in instant $$$ and you cannot rebuild long-term, how do you expect anyone to have success? If Kiki or someone else does everything perfectly, he might be able to turn this into a low 40 win team. That doesn't excite me.

i say go after someone w/a proven history of building a championship team... go get Jerry West... i've read some reports that he may step down as GM of the Griz after this season... don't know how true those reports may be, but if there's any chance we can get a crack at him we have to go for it... Dolan should make him an offer he can't refuse to take charge of this team & right this ship w/a GUARANTEED 5 year contract to make it happen... that means allow him to do as he sees fit, make whatever personnel decisions, trades, hirings, firings, draft picks & everything else w/zero interference from anyone in the Knicks' organization... God knows no one else in this franchise knows what the Hell they're doing.

But you can be pissed about passing on M. Williams who had red flags all around him?
