Why not give Isiah some credit for making the right moves and drumming up the collective heart of the team?

I wish he would make these guys give Frye the ball when he has position, but his substitution patterns and the style of game he created looked good with these players.

That's what I think.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

LOL! How true and how sad. Whether you wanna give Isiah credit or not, the myth that has become Ty Thomas after his 6 and 4 domination, is really amazing.

They could have given up, they could have choked, he could have argued calls, gotten technicals for it and showed no discipline no discipline...but none of that happened.
They played with more heart in game 1 of this season than they did in any game last season!

I was fine with Isiah's coaching until I heard this crap:
"It feels good to get Isiah and the team started right," guard Jamal Crawford said. "(But) we have to learn to finish. We had them down 19. We should have pushed it to 30."

Thomas said the close call wasn't all his team's fault.

"It was nothing we did wrong," he said. "It was everything they did right. They were making shots and taking it to the rim."

One game into the season he's making excuses for guys. I was hoping that crap would have changed. Why not say "we need to hit our FTs and do a better job on the glass down the stretch. We do that we coast in this one."

Instead he's got to coddle? Have we seen that help? Whats he going to say when they lose? It wasnt their fault because the other team did some "right things." ????

fishmike, I think thats the perfect situation. The coach trying to cover for his guys a bit at the same time, the guys owning up to their mistakes. I did get annoyed after hearing Isiah but as long as players like Jamal know they shouldn't let that happen....

Point taken.

But the guy has 2 rings, I think he knows that. It isn't whether he says it to the media or not thats important. I think its whteher he says it to the team thats important and i think thats happening.

Also probably the most important thing he said was:
There were times when we became unglued, but we eventually got back to playing the way we practice.

I'm paraphrasing, but the important thing is, he knows what guys did wrong. Hes got to fix the situation that happened last year. Shit was so out of wack last year he has to build up that trust with the players, and I think hes doing that.

You know what, if he lies to the media and is honest with the team behind closed doors, that's fine by me. Don't you think after last year he's going to be extremely careful about calling out folks to the media? There's no need to after a game like that. There's no need to ever with the vultures in NY. Let them make their own stories.

The reason we lost that lead was lack of confidence when the Grizz started making their run. I'm fine with Isiah trying to build their confidence a little. And I'm thrilled if he goes all year without criticizing a player to the media. He called out Curry in the media without ripping him to shreds and so far gotten results. I think he and Brown are both media savvy, but Isiah has far different goals when he's talking to the media than Larry did last year. They won. Everyone knows they escaped that game, there's no use ripping the team in the paper afterwards. Rip them on the practice court.

Give Isiah credit?

What has he done in 2.5 years - other than make the team older, slower and less appealing?

Credit?

Never

they blew a 19 point lead to a team that was missing there two best fowards and was taking us to the wire with Lowry (whom i wanted, because he has balls 10rebounds he is 6'1) and Warrick (who i also wanted) and Gay.

We looked fair at best, but it was a road win, and a win for that matter a game they needed and they got so lets just leave it at that.

Crawford looked like ****, shooting an off balance three for the win?

So take solace from the win, but Lee is better, Q is improved and that is about it right now.

Come on now. What he says to the Press is not what he is saying to them in the locker room. Did you see him when Nate got the T? IT was screaming at him in his way, cool and composed. Nate got the message. Then when nate came out, IT sat next to him and continued to let him now that it will not be accepted. Did you notice nate did not come back in, until he had too?

It is all part of IT's plan. He is showing the guys that he has their back with the media. In turn, he will EXPECT them to have his back and to perform all out for him.

I think it will work.

New Best Friends: Q and Starbury. Did you see them last night.

Yes, the team collapsed but they got it together and won. Last year they would have lost by 10 in OT.

The Knicks couldn't rebound to save their lives last night, and they can't afford to blow 19-point fourth-quarter leads like they did last night. However, the players left on the floor played hard and showed a lot of composure at the end of the game - a great sign.

Isiah gets credit for getting one win. The Knicks are now undefeated for the 2006-2007 season.

Agreed. We're a work in progress and with the team we played this game shouldn't have been close.

I'm really encouraged to see Q and DLee playing the way they are. Q runs this sh** at the moment. Tough D, high energy, good awareness on the court, and then of course 30 and 9. Can only hope he keeps this up.

The thing I liked most about Lee was on a few occasions when he knocked someone to the floor. Two times I remember for sure, but I think it could have been more, he simply walked away. Didn't even look at the guy, didn't offer to help him up. Maybe some won't like that because it's unsportsmanlike or whatever, but I love it. Reminds of me the old days. Could it be the team is actually toughening up?

Q, Lee, Nate, Balkman are all playing tough. Curry could easily get there. Are the Knicks actually going to be a hard team by the end of the season?

i give him credit for having these guys playing for each other & the cameraderie i see that wasn't there last year... but i had a hard time distinguishing this team's deficiencies w/the ones that LB's team had last season... they still don't know how to finish games, they still don't play any perimeter defense whatsoever, they still take ill-advised shots during big possessions & they still don't take care of the ball.

if Isiah can get these guys to fix those issues, then i'll proclaim him the Coach of the Year, but 1 win in triple OT vs. a team w/much less talent & missing their star player doesn't warrant high praise for him just yet... Isiah does get credit for getting Eddy Curry to start playing the way he's capable of though, but again, it's 1 game... let's see him sustain that over the long haul.

I give credit to him not being Brown and sticking with guys and often his best guys. I also give him credit for instilling a different attitude in Curry. But I agree the plays he called after timeouts didn't seem to work. And he hurt us by keeping Francis out there, way after it was clear that he could not help us.

I give him credit for bringing the team together. Thats something many people would have thought impossible. And I give him credit for installing a fluid offense that gave us a 19 point lead.

BUT

When the knicks started to play like doodoo in the fourth he needed to call them down. We should have been running down the clock every time down the court, especially when the lead was 13 with 4 and a half left. Instead you have frye shooting threes with 20 seconds left on the clock.

But he did a repectable job, i like what i see.

Whether the Knicks blew the Griz out by 30, lost by 30 or barely won in 3OT's, he gets no credit. It's one game. Far too early to be having the "credit" discussion.
