Since I am sick of people saying we have a 122 million payroll, I just made the simple calculation of our real payroll, which is the salaries of the players in our 15-man roster (then not counting Allan Houston, Jerome Williams, Mo Taylor, Shandon Anderson, Jalen Rose...).
I took the assumption that J-Rose will be waived in the upcoming days.

In the end, we have 14 players for a payroll of about $79 millions, which in my opinion is really the number we should have in mind when looking at this team.

Because $79 mil is a whole lot more manageable than $135 mil.

It is? Anyway Our cap is around 140 this year but we will never get under the 53 mill cap while we have 40 mill a year in 2 pgs.
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

I thought Layden was making progress by not doing any panic trades and had some draft picks AFTER the Dice trade. I thought we were ready to build the right way.

WE are much futher behind. Isiah sold Dolan a bill of goods and has not delivered.

How mnay players from Layden's era are still in the leauge, even making significant contributions? Including players Layden drafted? How many of those players would you even still want on the team?

Layden and progress in the same sentence? He traded a high pick for a washed up Mcdice. Great move.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Where is Lampe? Frank Williams? Vujanic? Sweetney? You would keep Sweetney over Frye, Nate Rob, DLee or Balkman?

i thought we got rid of layden at a good time. the team was alright and had some promise, but a GM with some vision could really mold it.

that point for IT was probably before he made the curry trade that tied us to a questionable player no one else wanted, especially at that price tag, for the next 5 years. this is the last shot for his vision of the knicks, but if it fails we're still stuck with most of IT's players for years.

Would you take a 140 mill payroll over a 88 mill payroll?

Would you take being under the cap in 2009/20010 over being under the cap in 2007/2008?

The Marbs salary and the Francis salaries are indefenseable at this point.

It's been posted earlier a $140 mil payroll isn't much better than a $88 mil payroll. It could be down to $79 mil at the end of season's end, but I was told it doesn't make a difference.

Before Isiah started piling on salary, we would have been under the cap RIGHT NOW as opposed to 3 years from now. So that does make a difference.

So is a $79 mil payroll better than $88 mil? Yes or no. You can't have it both ways. We have much better players now than before. The Knicks are beating Memphis and Atlanta. 2-0 start. I'll even go as far saying they'll beat the Pacers for 3-0.

This is funny. Lets conveniently "forget about" players that are actually counting against the cap in Allan Houston, Jerome Williams, Mo Taylor, Shandon Anderson, Jalen Rose. They still count.

It's convenient for peopele who have an ax to grind with IT to forget this fact. This team from top to bottom is much more talented than the one IT took over. For whatever reason, it has not manifested itself on the fllor. IT is the coach now, and we'll see if he can do better than his predecessors. I believe he will.

Maybe it's because talent is just not something you pile up expecting to instantly form a good team. A good GM picks the right blend of talent to fit into his plan. You don't need to have an axe to grind with Isiah to realize he's done a terrible job with the Knicks.

Wow, I don't even know if it is worth responding to this but I guess will.

Talent doesn't mean anything. The Yankees have the most talent of any sports team period and they still can't even win the world series every year. It's all about bringing in pieces that FIT TOGETHER and also players that will form CHEMISTRY together.

You don't need to have an axe to grind with Isiah to realize this.

We'll see. He's at the helm now. It's either sink or swim. If the teams wins 40+ games and makes the playoffs with a salary cap of about $80 mil next year, is he legit then?

You shouldn't have responded, because when the Yankees won 4 in a row they had one of the highest, if not the highest payroll in the league. So you can win that way.
