No Extension Likely For Pietrus
21st October, 2006 - 11:42 am
San Francisco Chronicle - Mickael Pietrus has until Oct. 30 to work out an extension with the Warriors, but the possibility of that happening is remote. Don Nelson has labeled him as one of the top players in training camp, but neither side says it is anticipating a new agreement.

"There have been no discussions concerning an extension for M.P.," Pietrus' agent, Herb Rudoy said via e-mail this week. "It is really up to the Warriors, and M.P. is willing to wait until next summer."

Who would move Frye or Curry for Pietrus+ picks?

Not me. The Knicks need more big men, not less.

we don't need any more swingmen... he's a good player but we need to hold onto our bigs.

I can't believe they didn't give him an extension. Something must be wrong.

I've always like Pietrus as a player. The Knicks have so many guards on this team right now but none of them, aside from Crawford, are that good nor are they building blocks. Pietrus would be a building block type player. This team needs an overhaul, a mixture of defensive and offensive players. I think Pietrus would be that type of player, he's not a great defender and he's not great either but he's extremely athletic and I think he will develop into a good defensive player. He also has the potential to be a top offensive player in this league. I'm all for getting this guy.

nyk, unless u can trade Q Rich & Jalen, going after Pietrus & giving up your bigmen talent doesn't make any sense.

It doesn't make any sense for this year but this team isn't winning a championship this year. I'm not concerned with the present, I'm concerned with this team being built properly so that maybe 3 years from now they are in position to be a true contender.

it makes sense for our future to trade away Frye or Curry to get another swingman when we already have a glut at that position as it is?

You can't give up a big man, but i would move a player like nate robinson or crawford for him, the guy plays defense you don't win with either guard mentioned in a starting role and you can find a scorer that doesn't d up, i would like to see what is being offered

Oh, I never mentioned trading away Frye or Curry, didn't see that in the first post. I wouldn't trade either for Pietrus, but I would trade anyone else on this team for him.

i wouldn't trade Crawford for Pietrus either to tell u the truth... & i wouldn't give up David Lee either, even though Pietrus is a better player at this point.

anyone else on the roster i easily give up for him, including Balkman & Nate, but i don't see the Warriors making the deal.

TMS, you're right that you cannot trade Curry or Frye for Pietrus. Just not smart trading. However, I wouldn't mind that Crawford for MP trade, IF IF IF IF IF you can find another guard down the line who can shoot the rock at least as effectively as Jamal Crawford. With that said, you'll still have to shop Francis and/or Marbury. With or w/o that trade, we still have an absolutely awful glut.

I do and still do... If he wasnt stuck behind Richardson I think he could be very much like a Josh Howard... maybe a little less productive but a better defender. I dont know what deal makes sense, but we dont have a perimeter defender like him.

How about Nate/Q for Foyle and Pietrus?

Foyle's deal is as long as Q's. He's overpaid but a good shotblocker, help defender and good clubhouse guy.

In a sec fish!

However on a different not, If it was Fye or Curry for Pietrus and a pick(1st rounder), I would envision our team looking like this not to far down the road.

Frye or Curry
Lee
Jefferies
Pietrus
Crawford

if it were for an unrestricted 1st rounder from GS, then i'd trade Frye for Pietrus, but not Curry.

I'd have to consider Curry before Frye just because I know Frye has the work ethic we all wish Curry had.

That shouldn't be hard. 42% FG and 35% 3PT FG.

curry + james + foyle: that would give us about $22 mil a year for our center spot which means this trade will have to wait for our next gm.

i just think Pietrus gives us the same things that Jared Jefferies & to some extent, Balkman does... Crawford gives this team something none of the other guys do, which is big shot making ability & versatility at the G position... anyway, i don't think GS would ever make that trade because of Jamal's longterm contract, so to make it work you'd have to throw in some other desirable parts, like Balkman, which i am unwilling to do... even if we were to sign a guy like, say Kareem Rush, to take Jamal's spot at the backup SG, i don't know that the trade would necessarily improve this team going forward

C - Curry / Turdmeister
PF - Frye / Lee / Malik
SF - Jefferies / Q Rich
SG - Francis / Pietrus / Rush
PG - Marbury / Nate
IA - Collins / Jalen / Skittles

or

C - Curry / Turd-a-licious
PF - Frye / Lee / Malik
SF - Jefferies / Q Rich / Balkman
SG - Francis / Crawford
PG - Marbury / Nate
IA - Collins / Jalen / Skittles

it's close... neither team would be really all that much better to contend in the future imo... the guy we need to get rid of is either Marbury or Francis.

a Malik & Nate for Pietrus straight up deal would be the ideal... then sign Jay Will & let him fight it out w/Collins for the 12th man spot:

C - Curry / Turd-a-rama
PF - Frye / Lee
SF - Jefferies / Q Rich / Balkman
SG - Francis / Pietrus
PG - Marbury / Craw / Jay Will or Collins
IA - Collins or Jay Will / Jalen / Skittles
