Ive supported Isiah for 3 years but I can honestly say I'm really sick and tired of being the JERRY SPRINGER SHOW of the NBA.
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

Co-signed. There was a time not too long ago that people hated the Knicks b/c they were afraid to play us (ThugBall). Being hated is tolerable. Being laughed at is not.

BTW, 33 years means you saw the last NYK Championship squad, correct? If so, do you remember what that was like? I never really got a perspective from someone who was there to see it.

LOL yes I'm that old but I was too young to appreciate most of it. Most of what I knew back then was Clyde and Pearl had cool names. I do remember how respected Willis was back then. I knew "Dollar Bill" Bradley also. I was a kid so my knowledge of the game back then was low. I started being a real knowledgable fan during the Bob Mac and Spencer Haywood years.

All I remember from those days was how Cool Clyde and Monroe were and I remember how I used to be fond of a poster of Clyde driving and I wished I could be at a game to see him. I was very young and started to really follow the team after the Championship years. The 1st live Pro game I saw was when DR J. was still playing for the NY Nets back around 74-75. I really have fond memories of those days, but I wouldn't say that the present situation has me feeling bad. This team is going to be fun to root for in it's current state. I like many of the new players we have. 1999 seems like a long time ago now and I can't wait to see this team be competitive again and back in the playoffs. I think no matter what Isiah has said, that he's really trying to get this team back there. I have to root for someone who is sincerely working to make my team better.

All of this stuff he's doing THIS YEAR is going towards the goal of making this a unified team again. So I don't have a problem with it. Now last year I have a problem with, cuz it was a needless circus. THAT was embarrassing and I wish he had been more active to try and stop it. What he's doing this year is in an effort to make this team better so I don't look at it in a negative way.

Ive been a fan since 92.. totally by accident. At the time I was 19. I was playing Street Fighter II in a local arcade and the Knicks were on the TV. I probably could have named 8 or10 BB players at the time... Magic, Ewing, McHale, Kareem, Jordan, Bird, Barkley... maybe a couple others. So while I'm waiting my turns to fight I'm watching the Knicks and Bulls. Well, lets just say until then I thought BB was a finesse sport.
I knew about Jordan, but never actually watched him play and he didnt let down. Guy was awesome, unstoppable. But the Knicks didnt back down. In fact they hit him. A lot. Some guy named McDaniel fouled out in about 10 minutes but made every count (and hurt). I was instantly hooked. This was my team. Being a Giant fan I grew up appreciating hard nosed play, defense and toughness. I thought there's no way this team can lose. They did... but it didnt matter. I knew we would get this guy eventually.

That season ended with the Knicks knocking off the defending Pistons at their own game before falling to the Bulls in 7 games. The obsession began.

At the end of the following summer I was diagnosed with cancer... Hodgkin's lymphoma. It was fairly advanced but still treatable. I started chemo right away. By the next fall things were pretty rough. The cancer was responding well to the chemo, but it was taking a toll on me physically. I was too weak to work and my weight dropped into the 130s (I'm 6'4). My treatments had to be slowed down because the stuff that cures you is the stuff that kills you. Its a fine ratio. Being an athlete and watching all the vitality stripped from my body was demoralizing and tough to deal with. That winter one thing kept me going.. the Knicks.

Some of my favorite guys were not back. I loved Gerald Wilkins, Mark Jackson and Xavier McDaniel, but they still had Ewing, Starks, Oak, Mason, and yes... I liked the rookie Greg Anthony. They had a hell of a year. I will never forget sitting on the couch, wasting away and watching the Knicks. I wouldnt even take pain meds until the games were over, because I didnt want to be dopey while watching. My stomach and chest only hurt when they lost.

The Knicks lost to the Bulls in 6 games in the ECF (Charles Smith non-dunk) but it was a great run, and on those nights inspired me. It was just enough distraction off of myself to keep me sane dealing with what I was dealing with.

I got a lot of help from friends and famliy that helped me get through that, but maybe none helped more than Marv, Clyde and our boys in orange and blue. Since then I have an undying love for this team. Its ingrained in me and runs deep. The Layden era hurt me... it really did. Isiah gave me some promise. He was a member of the bad boys. If anyone can bring in tough players that understand team it was him... after all, he played on one of the greatest. Nobody thought much of Salley, Rodman, Lambeir, Mahorn but that group was ferocious. I was excited. Needless to say my excitement has been extinguised and my dismay great.

I just want to move on... what kills me the most is having to root for this guy to suceed because he runs my belove team.

Im 38 and I while I was young, I remember the Knicks championship vaguely. We've had some dissapointing teams--i mean Glenn Gonderzick anyone? and then we tried to starphuck it with bob macadoo spencer haywood which leadinto sugar ray ray williams --bernard--patrick --even though there was some really bad teams, you could deal with it as a team you love. Now you deal with the team you love--adn I know the young guys cant respect this either guys on the team posters here who are young--but it's to bad our knicks have been hijacked by an arsehole which makes it hard to root for. it kind of gets you in the gut you want the team to win, but hopefully they can do so as isiah moves on.

good stuff...the last line really hurts but its true. I remember what it was like to be positive and defend my time at all times that is why I can't do it now. I'd be fooling myself.

Mac and spencer was prelude to Franbury! ON paper is looked good!

Isiah should not have called out Greg Anthony as not being a true knick. True Knicks would get fired for speaking out!

Let Balkmans play set history, and in time Anthony MIGHT get called out on it. ITs wrong for Isiah to call out an anouncer and question his "Knick" loyalty.

The guy is not paid to kiss knick ass, but to call it like he see's it. Right or wrong!

Personally I think Draft nite "chatter" is a lot of fluff and silly BS, but lets not take it seriously.

Isiah need only put a good product on the floor and he will earn lots of respect!

I agree with you 100% Ray, its embarassing. I hate when people ask me who I root for and I say Knicks and then they laugh! I NEVER thought it would get to this point but it has and I want things to change. I want the Knicks to REALLY matter again.

Hey Fish, that was a great read, inspiring. It's great to hear that things are good with you now. Too bad the Knicks aren't fairing as well.

HEY the season is about to start and hope springs eternal. Let's not get down just because of the comments of Isiah. Underneath it all this team looks like it's starting to wake up and until proved otherwise, I'm going to be excited and expect a lot out of this team this year. Everything is on the line and so far they seem to be stepping up to the challenge.

Isiah may not be doing things that we like, but I can guarantee that his players are behind him 100%. You think this doesn't play well in the lockerroom when they read these kind of comments? He can't be concerned with how we feel, he only cares about the guys in that room and motivating them everyday. He's been consistent with using the negative things people have said about the players as a motivating tool and he's just doing more of the same here. Emotion is a VERY strong tool in sports and he wants this team to be confident and have a bit more of a nasty streak when they play. One way is to make them think everyone outside of the team is an enemy and especially the media, who often have had nasty things to say about many of these players. MOTIVATION people. That's all. Riley did it and JVG did it.

I usually laugh before they laugh. Thats what happens living in/near San Antonio. I've been a Knicks fan thru 20 win seasons before and I had no problem with it. Ofcourse injuries played a huge role back then. I was never embarrassed to be a Knicks fan till all this drama type circus came around in the last 2 years or so.

Thats true but Bob Mac and Spencer Haywood were both better than Marbs or Francis. Bob Mac was an MVP in the NBA. They really only played together 1 year because they both were injured so much. The one year they both were healthy we had a winning record. B Mac averaged like 26 or more points that year

i used to watch a Knicks game here & there when Bernard King was lighting it up at MSG, but never became an avid fan until after they drafted Ewing & they brought in guys like Oakley, Mace & Starks to play alongside him.

*sigh* those were the days! when being a Knicks fan meant you could be proud of your team... that the team you rooted for was known as the toughest bunch of guys there was in the NBA... when coming into MSG meant you had better bring your A game or don't bring it at all.

i'm depressed now... someone hold me.

The Bernard king team that went to 7 games with the Celtics was such a great team. No egos on that team. They knew Bernard was the man and they rode him. Gentleman Bill helped out but the rest of the team was just a hodge podge. Hubie ws a very good coach. Its a shame Patrick never got to play with Bernard. Patrick has huge respect for Bernard and is ure they would have won multiple titles if they played together.

UGH! Don't remind me :( I was SOOOOO optimistic when we drafted Patrick, I thought man now we're gonna see something. BKing and the Hoya Destroya! Back then I thought of Patrick as a defensive beast. I had no idea he'd trun into a very big offensive player. I still remember the draft and jumping out of my seat when we got that pick. We just seemed to be snake bit when it came to those 2.
