I know we have between the Balkman/M.Williams thing to death but let's just say that another team was going to pick Balkman. Well, would anybody picked after Mardy have been a better pick than the Mardy pick in your opinion. That shooter that Houston picked sounds good, but I prefer the defensive, team oriented guard first. I don't think Francis is here it stay.

I haven't seen a game yet so I'm a newsgroup informed guy. I like the potential of what Mardy can bring (as Isiah said he brings a cool head out there). Isiah is just too good at drafting. I don't want to see him traded. I want to see what Isiah saw in this guy. Remember, he was a (talked about) lottery pick not that long ago...

I've never in my life seen Mardy play. It's difficult to say yes or no to the pick. I would have preferred an athletic big man but can't complain about Mardy yet. He's been in the league for 3 months.
I just hope that people will like me

From what I have seen, one thing is clear. Collins can play defense. In fact, he looks like he has the potential to be a lock down defender (if there is such a thing) at the 1 and 2 position, which is very valuable in this league. His problem right now is that he does not seem to be a comfortable scorer and has no accuracy on his shot. He does seem to have a solid grasp of running an offense and seems like a heady player. If IT drafted him, I have no doubt he can play if given PT and experience. I hope the Knicks hang on to him for awhile until we see what happens with Francis and Q (back).

I am a Mardy supporter and I think he is the perfect compliment to our slew of small guards. Once one of these guys are gone, hopefully Blubbury, then we can see Mardy's true value.

Mardy does zero things well on the offensive end from what I have seen.......

You could have done Williams/Rondo/Brown/Alexander Johnson instead of Balkman with the first pick which is the route that he should have done.....Craig Smith even looks like he could be a very good player for the T Wolves......

Not sold on Marty

Rondo is going to be a very good player in this league, passes well, great athlete and plays defense would have been a much better pick

As of right now, Balkman looks like a definite player. If Zeke was high on him then it is good enough for me. Who is to say he would have been there at 29. I always like the George Young approach. If you like the player that much, pick him when it's your turn.

Balkman not being in the media guide and no other gms being all that interested, and you can find one dimensional energies guys, you can't find floor leaders

really, saying iwouldve done this that and the other thing after the fact is all speculative and monday morning QBing. the scenario where we drafted both marcus and balkman wouldve been the optimal choice and i believe strongly that we couldve executed it----how? if we valued marcus much higher than mardy collins[which i dont think they did] we couldve simply bought that Pheonix pick right after us they sold to boston, and pawned off 29. they probably knew one of farmar lowry williams and collins would be there @29, but they got the worst one imho.

from the very limited action i've seen Mardy in during Summer League, he seems like he can grow into a solid veteran role player who plays defense & provides a steadying influence on the floor... in many ways resembles a larger version of Charlie Ward (comparisons w/Aaron McKie are also popular, but i think McKie is a more dynamic player w/more scoring ability than Collins)

isnt that kinda a nice way of saying he will never be a good player, but can play well if surrounded by superior talent?

yes, he's a distributor that plays good defense.

You can't build a team around that, but a team of superior talent will be even better.

pretty much... but i don't think it's realistic to expect to nab any Allstar calibre talent w/the 29th pick in the draft anyway... i'd be happy if Collins grew into a solid veteran leader type role player just like Charlie was for this franchise... i think it would be a mistake to let him go because once Francis or Marbury are gone from here, he will have a role on this team... certainly we don't need any more SF's & i don't see any worthwhile young bigmen being traded for him either, so why bother?

Thanks for your comments. Interesting bunch of perspectives. Sort of gives me a better idea about the possibilities. I wonder how many will eat horse regarding Balkman and/or Collins. I mean, imagine if Collins really does turn into something special. Imagine (big imagine at the current time) if he turns out better than the other point guards taken... years away.

Also, it was mentioned Isiah was coveting a player picked in the teens I think. Even tried to trade up for him. Was it Shawn Williams? I'd like to know who that was and keep an eye on him.

Usually guys with allot upstairs can manage to stay in this league if they have an exceptional talent: ie. floor leader, offense, defense, etc. It sounds like Mardy may excell defensively and we have to see where he goes with his leadership skills, but he has something there (or had in college). His offense is below average but we haven't seen enough of it. With Jefferies out perhaps he will get more playing time as our roster allows players to play out of position. More than likely unless Isiah see's it hurting his confidence.

I liked Marcus Williams when he dropped, Rondo, PJ Tucker. Then again I would have been happy with signing Jay Williams-a PG who actually know how to run an offense- and either drafting a big guy(Alex Johnson) or maybe trading up with the two picks.

agree, wish Isiah would've signed Jay Will too... if he doesn't make NJ's roster maybe the Knicks can pick him up.
