NEW YORK (AP) -- Jared Jeffries, expected to be the Knicks' starting small forward, could miss the beginning of the regular season because of a broken left wrist.

Jeffries was hurt Friday night against New Jersey in his Knicks debut and didn't play Saturday night at Philadelphia. He had an MRI exam Sunday, which revealed a non-displaced fractured left wrist.

Coach Isiah Thomas said Monday during a conference call that Jeffries could be sidelined three to six weeks, though the Knicks said they would have a better idea Tuesday.

Jeffries signed with the Knicks over the summer after spending his first four seasons with the Washington Wizards.

You know, despite being a registered hater -- I am beginning to develop that naive optimism as the season approaches... All I can say is that I hope this injury results in Balkmania running wild all over the NBA!!!

They'll have a better idea by Tuesday? Fire Isiah?

Well assuming it's a broken scaphoid bone in his wrist, they'll insert a small screw or pin. The healing process can be very slow. If the broken bone does not heal or heals in a bad position, serious long term damage can result including post traumatic arthritis.

If they're saying between 3 and 6 weeks, chances are it'll be closer to six weeks. Just to be on the safe side.

6 weeks is roughly 15 regular season games..

And his defense could've been used against those heavy-hitters, ****!!! e's missing match-ups with Pierce, Melo, Bron, T-Mac etc.

Exactly the reason why he was brought here, but what can ya do

Dude, why are we complaining like it's the end of the world? I'm looking foward to this challenge for the Knicks. Lets see what they can do without one of their soldiers and if things are really different from last year.

Fractures aren't always so bad. I've had several diffferent fractures in the wrist and hand area and they can heal surprisingly quick. A nondisplaced fracture is the less serious type and if they're saying 3 to 6 weeks it doesn't sound like there was any extensive damage. We'll have to see, but it doesn't sound serious.

its really not too big of a deal, b/c we are deep at that position and jeffries is not a great player that can change a game, but its still disappointing that we cant start off the year at full strength.
