You could probably save a couple mill as Jalen has decent value and there are teams that can use a scoring playmaker like him. Denver and Sac come to mind.

Unlike most of Isiah's decision this is just the right thing to do.

We dont need his expiring contract. Those deals cause more problems than they create.
We arent going to play him. No room at the 1,2 or 3.
He's (obviously) not a part of our future plans.
NOTHING good can come from a veteran (who can still play) sitting on the bench collecting $15mm along with a bunch of DNPs. He's not the type... you know he wants another couple more years

yep. There is nothing we can get for him and we get an additional roster spot.
I'd like to stick to the team we have.

Frye/Lee/MRose
Curry/JJ1

Am I leaving anybody out?

I think Rose still has some value. I would cut him but I would hate to see him get picked up by a team in the East. I would trade him for expiring contracts of lesser value. The Knicks get to pick what team he goes.

yeah, it's tricky. The only person we could use is a JJ1 upgrade. But not too much of an upgrade.

Maybe draft picks and a player that is expiring next year along with MRose.

Yeah, good point Pharzeone, let's see how this plays out.

It's okay to say this about Jalen apparently but if I make this comment about someone else(someone you like) than I am a pessimist that wants the team to die.

All your inconsistencies aside, I agree with your post 100%

It's one of those situations where you know that the guy can play and can probably help you, but with the current plan there is no place for him. You almost want to just say cut him and move on like we did with Mo.

I dont really want to buy him out cuz he is a player that can and will contribute to another team possibly hurting US... I dont want to pay him to play against us.... I'd really rather just keep him in case of injury and hope he keeps his mouth shut... Or we could Penny him...

I don't think that should be our concern. We can't worry about what guys do after they leave here. We need to worry about building the best team. If that means cutting a guy that doesn't fit that may cause issues and replacing him with someone that fits. Or replacing him with a young guy with potential I personally think that is the best move. Now if you want to hold on to him and play it out that's fine but you can't allow him to become a distraction. "if" he becomes a problem I think you have to release him. Same goes for anyone else. We can't allow any of the excuses of last year to creep back in. We must continue to develop a new culture. LB has to be the last side show.

Of course you do:

Would trading for Francis help the Magic: Yes, so we should not have made the move, because it was risky for us

Does taking on Jalen help Toronto out a little: Yes it does, did it really help us, no then why do it.

Should we have taken Marcus just to keep him from the Nets: Yes, now they have a pg of the future, and we have Marty Collins

The Bulls a smart franchise with a good GM released TT and said he couldn't sign with a team in the conference, which is what you need to do if your going to buy the guy out....

Isiah: Traded for JYD, ends up buying him out, Traded for Malike Rose will not be in the rotation, trades for Mo Taylor ends up buyiing him out, Trades for Rose may buy him out, signs JJ talked about a buyout........

If we had any sort of ownership this ******* would have be fired, he is such a snake and has no clue what he is doing, hopefully he has a plan

Since it comes immediately after mine I'm sure the above post will eventually be attributed to me by the "secret positivity police", so allow me to do this

I really don't know what to do with Jalen. If you get a deal that makes fiscal sense, trade him. I don't know about buying him out- I think there's a chance he can help (though I honestly don't know where the minutes would come from. I do know that injuries and the unexpected does tend to happen though). I would hold him for a rainy day like Penny, though I'm sure he'd be unhappy with that since he's healthy and can actually play (unlike Penny).

Ive already seen enough of Balkman to play him over Rose. Not that he's better but he brings more things we need. He actually reminded me a bit of Marion, ONLY the way he would attack the glass then immediatly push the ball up court and start a break. He mades some nice passes, and he's very long and strong for his frame.

He's not a stain on Marion's jock strap right now, nor does he "threaten" to be, but did show of those traits that make Marion such a good player and so versatile

Right now we need to keep Jalen and hope that he deals with the situation professionally. Someone may get hurt, which will open up some minutes for him. I don't want to trade him for more salary, but we need to keep ourselves in position in case a good deal does come along. If a GOOD deal does not materialize by February, we just cut him and let him join another team.

agreed. buy him out before he becomes a problem.

though my suspicion is that Isiah will hang on to him in hopes that he's doing well enough that Dolan lets him use Jalen's expiring deal come the deadline.

hope is Isiah's middle name. Its a waste. How about having confidence in the guys you have enough to let one go that you know isnt a part of your future, and is only going to be a distraction. Dont you think Jalen knows his status?

We are going to have to pay him anyway, so as long as he is not a distraction, why not keep him in case someone goes down (which is bound to happen) or someone makes us a good trade offer (which is probably less likely). We tell Jalen, if we cannot trade you, we will cut you in February and let you join another team in the West (like Chicago did to TT, which is supposedly improper under league rules but Chicago got away with it anyway).

I guess you guys will NEVER give Isiah the benefit of the doubt? It seems as if some of us think he's clueless and has no sense about what he's doing. That he's somehow incapable of doing the right thing. While I agree he's not the best executive in the league, I also don't think he's the worst or nearly as bad as some make him out to be. The holes we have to fill are MINISCULE compared to many other teams. With just a couple good moves this team could be REALLY set. Until he does otherwise i'm going to at least assume that he can see what we also see and that he's at least trying to figure out how to fix the problems.

nixluva, why?
more than half the moves he's made show he's clueless and has no sense of what he's doing.

Dumping Jalen now eliminates the potential for another Isiah blunder. Keep him doing what he's good at, drafting.
