Not sure why he didn't play last season. I'm a big east guy and I really don't follow Virginia too tough so I don't remember him.

an interesting take...

http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=71

basically says Brown has an NBA body and skills, but is mentally weak, not star caliber mindset. maybe that was an issue when he anchored his college frontcourt, but deep on our bench not a big deal.

Word in the NY Post is that he's been giving Curry a run for his Mickey D's on the court!

And Jackie Butler did the same.

I think it's a bit disconcerting how often an undrafted guy can neutralize our franchise player.

Can we wait until we actually see it with our own eyes, in an actual game before we take this WORD from God knows who that Brown has held his own against Curry. Geeze, you guys are so quick to jump the gun.

His stats at virginia were like 13ppg-6rpg-.5blocks-50%fg-60% fta

The Ny papers are all about nastiness. They werent trying to build up Brown. they were tryimg to take a shot at Curry. The good news is they didnt say Curry was out of shape. I'm surprised the paper was even allowed in to a unofficial practice that isnt allowed to be organized by the team.
The paper/fans would like to ask why isnt Curry there early but he is. They would like to ask why is he out of shape but since they didnt I think its safe to say he probably isnt. So they go for the only pot shot left for them. The NY press is horrible. Read about them in some books by athletes or other people behind the scenes. They are like nasty gossip columnists starving for anything negative they can print.
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

When did Jackie Butler neautralize Curry? I never saw that printed. LB in his season of purposefully trashing our team limited Curry as much or more than any player. Jackie did very little the whole first half of the season. In fact Brown wanted to send him to the minor leagues but he refused.

I can't win!

Lets just say I don't find it inconceivable that this kid is giving Eddy a tough time because i saw it myself with Butler. Not in head-to-head matchups, but in what they each did for the team on the floor. Too many times for my comfort Butler was the more effective center on the floor for us. He's simply a smarter, more aware player.

I doubt stats will bear it out, but I know 82games +/- stats do. Butler was our most effective player in that regard. If you don't believe things can work that way then you should be very down on the Jeffries signing, because he's another guy who can probably be fairly easy out-statted, but whom we hope will be a good facilitator and a guy who can help us win.

If we never saw Butler head to head play Curry and it was never reported in the newspapers that its impossible to say Butler did that.
As far as 82 games plus or minus goes I find them almost worthless. In fact that site also shows Curry being one of if not the only Knick that out played his own man on the other team.

Even in the days of Ewing, the second unit used to win a lot in practice. It's good to have a second unit that brings it in practice.

This reminds me of the bs stories that I would see 20 years ago about some no name TE that didnt even make the Giants pushing Lawrence Taylor around in camp

First of Blue, glad to see you cut your umbelical cord from Marburys jock strap long enough to make a logical post. Glad to see you enter this thread rather than stalking threads with Marbury or Isiah's name attached.

I disagree with your assesment of Butler and Curry. Butler is the classic back-up QB. everyone loves the back-up QB until the team is turned over to him. Butler had a flashes here and there, but his peak is stumped but Curry's peak. Curry had some amazing games. They were few and far between, I agree, but last yr was a crazy yr fro Curry beginning with the heart-condition, the inability to workout over the summer, nagging injuries, and Next-Town's strange sub patterns.

when I said, SEE, I was referring to Elton Brown out playing Curry. There was a reason this kid wasn't drafted.

I think Blue seats is 100% right about Marbs BUT Ive decided to focus on the positive Knicks this year and not worry about the rest

You know last year was a down year for Curry, but even still he's not far off from being a VERY productive Center in this league. Its not like he has a lack of ability. I think he's going to be better this year, but then i'm not expecting Ewing or Shaq out of him. Curry avg'd 13.6 pts 6 reb and .78 bpg in only 25.9 mpg.

Now according to the NBA his per 48 min stats show:
Curry was behind only Shaq, Yao, Big Z in scoring at 25.1 ppg
Curry was behind only Shaq in FG%

Now it's his rebounding and blocks that need the most help
His rebounds per 40 min stat is 11.1 in comparison Chris Kaman is 14.0 and Shaq is 14.4
His Blocks per 48 min stat is 1.44, in comparison Chris Kaman is 2.02 and Shaq is 2.76

So clearly its on the defensive end that Curry needs to make the most improvement. Being realistic, I don't expect that he's ever gonna be on Shaq's level but I don't think its too much to ask for him to be about where Kaman is. If Curry can get to a per 40 min reb rate of 13.0 that would be excellent for him. If he can get his blocks up to around 2.00 or maybe just under that, I think that is a realistic goal for him to aspire to.

The biggest part of the equation for Curry is to have a change in mental approach. If he really wants to be a better player then he'll get there. His body has the ability, the limitation is in his head. Just being in shape and getting more minutes will get his production up this year alone. The rest is up to his level of desire.

You're missing the point. I never maintained it happened in head to head competition, I maintain that Butler earned significant PT over Curry. That's what I care about, not one-on-one matchups. I'll leave the one-on-one matchups for the guys who want to profess Steph is better than Nash and Kidd...

As far as 82 games plus or minus goes I find them almost worthless. In fact that site also shows Curry being one of if not the only Knick that out played his own man on the other team.

So they're worthless but you'll use them when they support Curry?

Curry peaked in minutes 3 years ago at 30 MPG. His career average is 24 MPG (one half of play). Last year under the evil LArry Brown he got the most starts of his career at 69. He's averaged 54 starts over his 5 year NBA career, all on rebuilding teams who viewed him as a core/franchise player with no one better in front of him.

Eddy is a prolific scorer in bursts, but it's not hard for lesser talents to steal a big chunk of his playing time.
