That's a big problem with today's basketball player. At 22 years old, how about saying *I want to win the championship* that's want I want to do, that's all I want to do. This kind of mentality takes away from the game a bit. How about put the time in and let things develop. You're a injury away from being a nobody pretty quick. You become SOMEBODY by accomplishing major GOALS first in the nBA. It's not like you are going to fall back on your Harvard education. You are a celebrity and the ONLY goal right now should be to accomplish NBA goals and be conservative and smart with your wealth that you've accumulated to this point.

Unless Bill Gates is going to adopt him, it's not going to happen.

It does make it seem like he may want to be a Knick, because they are about money, not championships.

Um I don't know if anyone realizes it or not, but basketball is still a sport and money rules the world.

Here's the quote in context if you wanna cut the kid a little slack.
By TOM WITHERS AP Sports Writer

CLEVELAND Sep 21, 2006 (AP)— LeBron James spent part of the past week shooting hoops with Dave and eating cheeseburgers with one of the world's richest men.

During a taped appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman" that will air on Friday, the Cavaliers' star forward took on the talk show host in a shooting contest outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in midtown Manhattan.

James fired up shots from 3-point range while Letterman shot free throws. Before their matchup, Letterman interviewed James on a range of subjects, including his high school days, his quick ascension to NBA star and playing for the United States in the world championships this summer.

A few days earlier, James had lunch in Omaha, Neb., with billionaire Warren Buffett. Keith Estabrook, a spokesman for James, said the two met over milkshakes, adding the player has "great respect for Mr. Buffet."

James, who signed a three-year, $60 million contract extension with the Cavaliers in July, may have been seeking some off-the-court business advice from Buffett, the self-made billionaire investor.

Last year, in an interview with The Associated Press, James said one of his primary goals was to "be the richest man in the world." James, who will turn 22 in December, already has endorsement deals worth an estimated $150 million.

Buffett sported a full Cavaliers uniform, complete with a jersey bearing his name, during his lunch with James and others, said Jen Bubarek, a waitress at Crescent Moon Ale House.

James ordered a bacon cheeseburger, french fries and an Arnold Palmer, a drink concocted of lemonade and iced tea. Bubarek said he topped off his meal with an Oreo cookie milkshake delivered by a Buffett staffer.

The waitress said Buffett frequents the casual restaurant, so it was "business as normal" for the staff. But, she said, a group seated near Buffett's table recognized James and asked to take his photo.

"He was very, very kind. He took pictures and signed autographs," she said.

In January, Buffett dropped into the restaurant with New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

James was first invited to be a guest on Letterman's show when he was in high school at Akron's St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. But scheduling conflicts delayed him making his late-night debut, which was taped on Monday night.

Would it count as "charity" if Marbury pledged a donation?

Ditto, but I'll take him on my team anyway. Regardless, Briggs is right. This can come crashing on him any day with one quick injury.

That's true but he's smart enough to have over $200 mil gauranteed between salary and endorsements!

Go check Microsoft insider trades. Bill has made a habit of cashing out 100-200mm on a daily basis for years. When they calculate his wealth, they don't go by liquidated assets, basically they are multiplying his present stock holdings *stock price. He literally could have tens of billions more. Heck Bill GIVES away billions yearly--when you can start giving away billions, then you can say Ive arrived:)but forget that--- What I don't like about it is the pure greed in the message. I'm quite sure some of it is immaturity. It's a no sum game--Gordon Gecko--but someone let Lebron know that his claim to fameis basketball. I don't really see how he transcends a persona like a MJ. He's only fair-spoken and doesn't have the charisma and mentality of MJ. And for all of the $$$$$ MJ has made, he's a partial owner of one franchise. His marketing group should tell him to let that one go, it's not a classy statement. Let Lebron tell me how much money he has donated to high school education in Clevland and Ill give him props. Hey maybe he'll own a chain of Isiah's popcorn:) although that has a good chance of going belly up in NY quite soon:(

Lebrons game speake louder than those words. It would be one thing if his game was declining since his rookie yr. Instead, he continues to improve every aspect of his game, adding range to his jumper, going left more etc. This tells you he's dedicated to becomming the best he can be on the court.

As far as wanting to be the richest man in the wourld, thats the mentality of generation Next. It goes beyond sports. Notice that everyone in the entertainment business is multi-tasking. Actors are making albums, Singers/rappers are also acting and designing clothes, putting out fragrances, starting their own record labels' etc. Thats the new mentality.....

lebron's done pretty well character-wise in my book considering he's had the world offered to him since he was 14 years old.
