New York Post - In light of the Knicks' acquisition of Jared Jeffries, a source has indicated that Isiah Thomas has been discouraged by James Dolan to add any additional significant salary.

This led to Thomas' meek offer to the Sixers for Chris Webber.

Interesting. I'm curious why that led Isiah to make a MEEK offer at Webber. If he can't add more salary than he shouldn't be making any deals at all unless its a straight salary tradeoff.

The one thing Dolan isn't, is cheap.

A webber trade would actually save the Knicks money (if they include one or two of their long term contracts)

No- a trade requires both parties to agree and I am sure Philly wasn't going to add salary and were looking to take advantage of us as about every other team has.

Isiah probably countered with scenario's discussed, and that it was rejected.

Good to see that Dolan has reached a limit and realizes, perhaps like he did with the rangers, that adding expensive 'talented' players isn't always the key.

I call BS. If this were the case, why did we use the full MLE for Jared. Hey, I love having Jared, but if Dolan saw the right situation, damn right he'd agree to add on more salary, for better or worse.

I agree. If the knicks were concerned about being fiscally responsible, they would not have signed Jefferies. It think Dolan just said to try and kept the spending down unless there is a great deal out there. I think IT just did not want to break the bank trying to get Webber. Webber would help on offense, but would kill us on defense. Obviously, he would help the team, but why overpay for him. Q and Taylor and maybe a 2nd round pick, would be the most I would give up for Webber.

It's not even signing Jefferies at all. It's just using the full MLE. If he used maybe half the MLE or signed Woods to maybe half of it, then I'd say there's some validity to that article, but there isn't.

Speaking of which, where is Q Woods going?????

i think dolan probably told isiah, i'll let you use the MLE and LLE, no more francis or marbury type trades. he probably told him the only trades he can make are ones where we either lose salary or get a player like KG in return.

Qrich and MRose are gone before training camp...I'm also thinking JJ may be moved as well...jRose and MoT are gone by the end of next year.

Any deal he makes will be in the knicks benefit, because he could theorhetically stand pat this coming year and see what the team has got.

I don't believe the team is poorly constructed.

who knows...qrich, I still believe in, but it's looking more and more like he may be moved. (i really would prefer he stay).

JJ isn't so bad as he's just getting the league average and he can use the "larry used me wrong" excuse to back into a position where he can be used as a hard screen setter and lane clogger.

Out in portland, mcmillian could use him. He made him a star in the playoffs (yes, I believe coaches make the players).

mRose, is mrose. Some people prefer passion of results...he can stay, but I really see him as a back up to DLee.

So, I'm sure people would take them off our hands because

1) I firmly believe last year was a fluke and shouldn't be counted on ANYBODY's record associated with it, not even FB's).

2) they are all extremely good ROLE players...and used to fit a specific role can be extremely successful. They are all players that can excel within a system.

that's what I think.

The reason I'm open to keeping Malik is that he is not a trouble maker. If he isn't playing, he will want more time, he will ask for more time and probably complain about it to. But he won't drag down team chemistry, take it out on other players and he will play hard when he is called upon to prove that he deserves time. Instead of not playing hard and then blaming inconsistent minutes for lack of effort. We don't really need the guy but I don't think there should be an urgency to get rid of him. Some other guys need to go first.

I dont' think it's that people prefer passion over results. I think it's that people see that we need a cultural change with this team. We need guys that are willing to get the most out of what they have because this makes others around them play harder as well. It also is a great example for the young guys. This team was starved for veteran leadership last year. Someone to take the reins away from Steph and Stevie when they cry because things aren't going well. These guys are great when things are going well. But when things get tough they crack. Now Malik obviously isn't the answer. But the more guys we have like him, the better. Even if the results in the short run aren't there, the effect and the results it will have for guys like David and Channing will be enormous. Sometimes the long run is hard to see. The worst thing this franchise can do is give these young guys 2, 3 or 4 years of following Steph and Steve and Eddie as their veteran leaders. They need other influences. It is the most important thing we can do. More important than sneaking in as an 8th seed. Our rush to see results clouds this.

Tim Thomas is a great example of a player being better when used in a specific role for a team needing that extra piece.

Rose would be great in philly. Maybe we give up our 2nd first round draft pick as well for Iverson insurance?

Not sure, but, and don't take this the wrong way, we're one more trade away from having a truly competitive team, defined roles and no bench babies.

It could very well happen in year 3 of IT.

Look we have already hit rock bottom, and like bip said Webber wont make us a better defensive team or a worse , but he certainly makes us a lagit playoff contender. I have no qualms in Dolan spending whatever it takes, hey..if u have it spend it, just dont spend it on BS.

Trying to get under the cap..right...when hell freezes over.
