New York Post - Last summer Isiah Thomas and the Knicks hired Larry Brown over ex-Piston Bill Laimbeer, and according to a report in the New York Post, Laimbeer believes that if he was hired instead of Brown things would have turned out differently.

"I thought if I got the opportunity to coach here, I would have done a fine job," said Laimbeer, in his fourth full season as the head coach of the WNBA's Detroit Shock. "They fell into a bad mix here last year with the coach and the players."

Last night did not provide much evidence to support Laimbeer, as Detroit fell to 19-9 with a 75-67 loss to the Liberty (8-21) in front of an announced crowd of 8,640 at the Garden.

"They had a 'players versus coaches' mentality here and it showed," Laimbeer said. "For everything he's done, Larry Brown is not the easiest coach to play for."

What would Laimbeer have done that Brown failed to do?

"You've got to get the guys to buy into what you're saying and Larry didn't do that," Laimbeer said. "I'm confident enough in myself that I think I would have. The players would have liked playing for me.
''We don't have the luxury to take anybody lightly,'' New York's Quentin Richardson said. ''We're not that good.''

I agree with him, Brown was a total disaster - its not too hard to do better then he did last season.

Yeah this isn't exactly saying much. That's like me saying I could up with a better "exit strategy" than President Bush.

Laimbeer is piling on now. I had a lot of respect for him until he made that statement.

Its very rare for a coach to disrespect another like that AFTER the fact. THey are a close community.

Its really obvious Larry sucked last year. The record speaks for itself. Its not hard to beat a 23 win season.

This is not Larry Love speaking here, but you never hear of coaches dissing another like that. Sounds like Billy Roid Boy talking some sour grape.

So, larry get's piled on...nothing different than marbury on a daily basis...or for any new york player, coach, GM.

Larry wanted to coach here, and this is what happens when you don't succeed in New York...ask Patrick Ewing, Pat Riley and ARod.

This is one coach to another. Not internet chitter chatter, and not the editorial rants of a beat writer in the media.

That I can understand. While his bad boy behavior was cool for a big white boy with limited talent to get tough on the court, that don't fly on the sidelines.

Sorry, the fraternity of coaches don't take to that. He should not open his mouth like that. We can, but not him.

He is likely trying for Isiah's job now! Or, Does Isiah get kicked back upstairs after this year if he does a good job. We can't have coach/Gm forever. We did not let Riles do it, why let Isiah except to put him on the hot seat?

I believe since Iverson came onto the scene, games are won and lost by egos, but championships are won by coaches.

Hopefully isiah follows the Riley path and puts lambier in place after he get's his extension, lambier get's them close, but fails, zeke comes back to the bench and get's us a ring.

Sure it's plenty of Larry Loving. You love him, no big deal. Pat Riley, Lenny Wilkens and Phil Jackson all took shots at Brown last season. BTW, since you are big fan of the fraternity of coaches' rules. Isn't it suppose to be a rule that one coach doesn't activately seek to try and get the job of another's coach while he is still coaching? Brown has done that in his last 3 stops. Philly, Detroit and NY. Van Gundy took a shot at him while he did it to Herb. He took Herb out to dinner so I guess its alright. I guess the rules don't apply to Brown as long as its over a meal.

Or in reality,

Isiah gets his extension and then Herb Williams takes over.

Brendan Suhr sabotages that effort, but given he is a phatPhuch the job goes instead to Mark Aguire.

Dolans Genital Herpes prevents him from working and Peter Uberoth is bought in to run the garden. He hires Russ Granik to be president of team. Isiah becomes Anucha's bitch and his contract is bought out. He agrees to star in revival of broadway show "Hairspray" and is a smashing as the next "Rupaul"!

Laimbeer is right, but he should not have said it. I think Herb Williams would have won 35-40 games had he remained the coach.

Laimbeer would have done a much better job than Brown. Logically, how could he have done worse? Brown won 23 games in one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NBA.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.
