Now that the Wizards have signed Deshawn it's looking more and more likely that Jefferies will be a Knick. People killed Isiah when Butler was signed by the Spurs and some people were actually claiming that Butler was better than Eddy Curry. Now, instead, we've gone out and signed a high I.Q., defensive player who doesn't need the ball to be effective. Personally, I think Jefferies is a much better fit for the team. I liked Butler, but was never sold on him being more than a nice option in the post. A few weeks ago, I said that I would be fine with letting Butler go if it meant saving the money for Jefferies. What do others think?

Butler for $7M or Jeffries for $30M?

Definitely Butler.

hey 30 mill or 7 mill no skin off my back. The contract isn't super long for a useless over hte hill role player either.

Jared Jeffries by a long shot. I love Butler and I wish Isiah kept him but Jeffries is going to do wonders for our team defensively and he's going to surprise alot of you with what he can do offensively when he plays in the right system.

Like Jerome James and his 4 long ass years left?

Hell, I'd rather have Butler and/or DeShawn Stevenson.

Isles I think if we signed KG to a 3 year contract you'd be bitching about how it was curtailing our youth or just lowering our draft status.

Value-wise, no question the answer is Butler. However, talent-wise, obviously JJ2 is more talented than Butler. He's obviously getting paid a big chunk ($60MM for 5 years, after luxury tax), but he's a player who can come in and help the team. This should also keep Balkman mostly on the bench, which will help, because I saw Balkman in summer league and am just not convinced he's fully NBA ready, yet.

Jeffries. But I'd take Qyntel over both. Doesn't matter--we should have all three by making room by waiving two useless veterans.

bonn - this sin't football where a franchise simply "waives" veterans. You still must PAY them. What does Dolan accomplish by paying that much chedda to two players?

I think Butler was more value for the buck. And would be a much easier piece
to use in a trade. JJ2 will really have to blossom here for him to be as
attractive a trading asset.

I'd rather pay Jerome James to NOT play than pay him TO play. He's THAT bad. Same with the Malik.

Malik averaged like a double double closing the season. His name should not be paired with Jerome or Mo T or even Jalen and Francis and "Starbury". He doesn't let shizat come out of his mouth and is respected and even loved by every coach he's played for and players he's played with. Heck, if you paid attention, he's become Nate Robinson's mentor (And Jamal has been one to Nate as well.) He's a nice vet to have on a team. His height is his only weakness.

Malik had a couple of nice games. Just to put things in perspective, though: If he were a free agent now, he'd have a tough time getting the league min from any team. Height and lack of ANY gaurd skills are Malik's problems. He's really the right height to be an SG. He'd be fine at this height if he could shoot, dribble, or drive and dish/finish.

I'd buy Malik out to open a spot and hire him as a coach. you gain the spot, keep the presence.

If getting under the cap in three years is the overarching goal (and I think it should be), Butler.

FORGET ABOUT THE CAP!!!! I don't know why we keep thinking about the cap as if its gonna happen. Its not so why worry about it. You take Jeffries cuz he makes the team deeper where we NEED IT. Butler has a VERY limited impact on this team. We already have Curry, Frye and James to play in the middle.

Steph --- Jamal
Francis -- Nate
Jared --- QRich
Frye ---- Lee
Curry --- James

Balkman and Collins as defensive role players off the bench. They'd get limited minutes and that's perfect.
Would you rather have Butler or Jefferies?
