There also are several clauses in the contract that may prohibit the Wizards from matching the offer. It is believed that Jeffries' deal calls for him to receive 80% of his annual salary before the season. Also, it is likely that Jeffries' contract includes a trade kicker or bonus in the event that he is dealt within five years.
Yeah, I read that this morning... If the majority of his money is paid out in the 1st year, Grunfeld might have a real issue w/ matching the contract. Pretty crafty move by Zeke; this deal forces the Wizards brass to think long and hard.. because if they do match, they likely will be over the luxury tax. Is that the price that you'd be willing to pay for a "multi-position" player- in effect double the cost??? Apparently NYK's management is ready to do so (Advantage us: We need a starting caliber SF, and we are already over the cap), but for Washington, remains to be seen!
Moreover, as stated earlier Jeffries doesn't want to return to the Wizards, Do you risk causing controversy on an up and coming team like Washington... It could turn out to be an ugly situation. Thats why, I expect to see a sign and trade.. Don't think the Wizards will let him just walk for nothing.. BUT, I surely think they recognize the potential for a disgruntled player on the roster. If they do match, it could be a major distraction for the team!!!!
