If true, its the first good move Isiah has made in a long time.

Did they give him the full MLE for 5 years? If so, I doubt Washington matches. Anything less than that, I would match if I am the Wiz.
You know I gonna spin wit it

ESPN's WEPN on-line, Don LeGreca update...

Jefferies would fit well with what the knicks want to do this year, he is very versatile and bring intensity on D...
I like this move...

I fully agree. I have been very supportive of Isiah signing him since December of last year. This would GREATLY ease my worries about the defense.

I guess this is why we didn't waste a roster spot signing Butler. I hope we get Jeffries

I don't know... I don't see ANY reference to this anywhere else. Am I wrong?

I heard it clear as day in the update, and trust me, Knicks news has been dry for weeks around here... I have been waiting for something to fall for a while...

Give it some time it will appear everywhere...

If he's on the Knicks' roster next season, I'll be happy.

They could do a sign and trade if they don't want to match but are able to bluff.

Knicks Sign Jeffries to Offer Sheet

By Ivan Carter
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, July 28, 2006; 6:06 PM

The New York Knicks signed restricted free agent guard/forward Jared Jeffries to an offer sheet this afternoon, according to NBA sources.

The Washington Wizards will have seven days to decide whether to match the offer. Team owner Abe Pollin, president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld and coach Eddie Jordan have all indicated a desire to retain Jeffries.

Terms of the offer sheet were not available. Jeffries has long been coveted by Isiah Thomas, New York president of basketball operations and head coach. Like Jeffries, Thomas starred at Indiana University.

The Wizards have 13 players under contract after the recent signing of free agent forward Darius Songaila to a five-year, $21 million contract, and have room under the NBA's luxury tax threshold to match the offer to Jeffries, according to sources.

Pollin has indicated that he is willing to spend up to, but not over, the luxury tax threshold $65.4 million. Teams with payrolls over the threshold pay a dollar-for-dollar penalty to the league on the amount of payroll that exceeds $65.4 million.

The most likely scenario, according to sources, is that the Wizards will use the full seven days before matching the offer sheet to retain Jeffries.

Jeffries was drafted by the Wizards with the 11th overall pick in 2002 and has posted averages of 6.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in four seasons while carving out a role as perhaps the team's best all-around defender.

would all the folks who were criticizing our non-signing of Butler please step forward and give Isiah his due.

True, it would have been nice to have seen this done earlier so that if the wiz matched, we might have kept butler, but I suppose there is a lot to negotiate with a player in his situation.

I'd wait to see if we can actually land JJ before we defend passing on Butler.

I dont think this is that good of a move. jeffries is overrated imo, If I had to guess I would say that we either dont get jeffries, or we overpay him. most likely we dont get him.

I hope they don't match the offer sheet. Jeffries fills needs for us because he's a big small forward, plays good defense, and is young and athletic. The ideal role player for this team. We'll have a log jam at the PG, SG, and SF but Jeffries and Richardson make a nice SF combo.
