So now there is an open roster spot.

Woods is still free and no press is on him at the moment.

Could their be a trade coming that the extra roster spot needed to be available?

Hmmmm

Seems as if Dolan might have frozen all assets while he waits and sees what Isiah does this yr. Udoka is starting to seem like a likely candidate to grab the last spot

In Newsday it's reported we only have 14 spots taken so we can sign Woods today without cutting anyone.
The move leaves the Knicks with 14 guaranteed contracts on their 15-man roster and signals the beginning of what might be a quiet summer for Thomas. He has shown interest in free-agent forwards Al Harrington of Atlanta and Jared Jeffries of Washington. But the Knicks don't have players the Hawks want to get involved in sign-and-trade negotiations for Harrington, and Jeffries is a restricted free agent whose team likely would match if the Knicks offered their $5.2-million mid-level exception.

Knicks should definitely sign Woods. He impressed me more than Butler. He will come cheap and will give us insurance in case Balkman does not pan out at SF. Plus, once Jalen Rose leaves, we are going to need a backup SF, assuming Balkman can move into the starting position and Q gets his minutes at shooting guard.

it basically comes down to Insurence.... thats what the spot is.. insurence... so do you take insurence at the 3(woods) when you already have balkman, Jalen and QRich (Dlee/Mrose can also slide over.. and Q wont be playing SG with the backcourt logjam we have) or do you take insurence at center where all we have is fatburger and curry.... Looks like Doleac Light is about to join the bunch!!! WOOPIE

My comments were not intended to suggest that we should have kept Woods over Butler. The post assumed that Butler was gone, and thus, my comments were intended to support the view that we should retain Woods in light of that fact. Given a choice between Woods and Butler, I would keep Butler due to the uncertainty surrounding JJ.

I like Miller. He has enough skills to keep around, although I question whether he can rebound and defend. I would cut Udeka. He is not better than Woods and is certainly not going to play before Balkman, Rose, or Q.

Ime is the worst player I have ever seen. That includes at the playground, local gyms, and the peewee leagues.

He's not that bad. You are definately over exaggerating. The guy is what he is, a servicable role player. He was good in summer league. He started lots of fast breaks with a rebound or clean lead pass.

Miller can shoot that's about it. Dude is mobile and can run the floor and probably will make a team, maybe the knicks but the dude is not that good.

In our offense, having a center that can shot will be an asset. Miller will bring something to the table that Curry and JJ cannot. That being said, we should still look to find a better 3rd string center.

We should look for a better 2nd string center first.

Now Big Lame has no excuses (has he ever had one?)! Last year the crybaby supposedly got depresed because he thought he was the starting center (lame) and now he has practically no competition to be the backup center with lots of playing time and he's had an offseason to get in game shape (is that possible?). If that doesn't happen this season his contract should be voided...

i can't believe u have even a sliver of hope for this guy when he hasn't proven jack during his NBA career other than the fact that he's a scrub foul collector... look at his #'s man... they're pitiful... Jackie Butler had as good a season in his rookie season straight out of the CBA as Big Turd's ever had in his NBA career.

Its not hope. Now its time for everyone to put up or shut up. Everyone, from Isiah, to Marbury, to everyone on the team. Big Lame got the big contract he wanted and has only wasted it on eating, but before that, he was on his contract year and played well. Its simply time for him to bring it or simply dissappear.

Too bad Butler wasn't re-signed, considering how important is to have a good backup center...
