How about Lebron and Bosh in 3 years? I dont care what the Knicks do, maybe, somehow we come out of this, BUT the MANDATE should be no deals past 2009. MAYbe things workout, but if they do not--that is the NY Knicks BUSINESS model of the future------ cap space for stars who take these small deals. the only way to execute this particular plan is ABSOLUTE discipline if we sck in the next two year exit all salaries and rebuild this scker with stars

I've been saying that for years. Set a time horizon for contract expiration to get under the cap and stick to it, unless you are able to trade for LeBron James.

btw, Wade is supposedly signing a three year contract as well.

Knicks got five million to play with past 08/09 if they want to sign some players or if they move Qrich or JJ they can use those salaries........J/K

I understand what you mean, I have no problem with it.

If Knicks are smart they try to dump contracts. This is NY. Players would come here for the right deal in a heartbeat.

We must dump everyone but Frye, Curry, Craw, Lee in my opinion. Curry hopefully can turn it around.

nah...all you have to do is convince Q and Jerome not to pick up the 6-9 mill player options

actually, what you would do would be to lock up some cheap rotation players asap. Guys like Butler and Lee. Your going to have to trade Frye as his rookie deal will expire and if he's half the super star kool-aid drinkers around here make him out to be he's going to command at least $8-$9mm. So you look to trade Frye for future picks. If you can get unprotected even better. Same with ALL these guys. You have 4 years to get ready. So you use your current pieces to stockpile future picks and cap space. While you might suck to legendary proportions you WILL be in place to add Bosh AND Lebron to a team with high lottery caliber players.

But whatever.. its all a pipe dream. This is an organization that cant think 3 weeks ahead, much less 3 years.

If Frye averages close to 20 ppg and 6-9 rbpg and the current GM is still here I think there will be very little chance the Knicks would trade him for draft picks in hopes of being able to sign Lebron and/or Bosh.

I think Dolan would fire him if he didn't make an all-out play for Lebron.

I posted this elsewhere... these are three year extensions that take effect AFTER this year. That means that they each have 4 years remaining under contract. That is, they are free agents prior to the 2010-2011 season. The only valid contract left on the roster is Crawford's at $10 mill. So, Big Snacks and everyone else can play out the remainder of their contract. It does mean we would be IDIOTS to take on Kmart's contract, who will be paid $16mill that year. Also, the CBA expires that summer. So, it is possible that the salary cap will be renegotiated.

Either way, the smart plan is to minimize contracts that extend that far except for characters that would complement 2 out of 3 of Lebron, Wade, Bosh.

Frye, Lee and Nate are restricted free agents the year prior and full free agents that year also. Nike being a huge supporter of big market teams would be very useful in signing some of these guys.

My point is: don't add salary past 2009. Tanking the seasons makes no sense since Chicago will swap us out next year and we still owe Utah at some point. The just need to be ready to make a serious play in 2010. Also note that this years crop of rookies should be restricted free agents that year. So, Briggs, if you really want Marcus Williams, you can make a run at him then...

the last sentence pretty much sums things up fish... i usually don't bother posting about planning for the longterm because this team has never shown me they have longrange vision to begin with... it's always about the now, & about selling tickets to fill up the garden & line Dolan's pockets... until they start making moves to the contrary, i think your plan is pretty much the pipe dream you say it is.

How long before Isiah says that that's his "plan" now. It buys him 3 more years and Dolan is stupid enough to buy it.

Imagine if we signed either Bosh or Wade then signed James to the MLE since he would be compensated for the difference anyway from Nike. Although it is a complete dream... not entirely out of the realm of possobility.

I like that. These other guys are thinking way to small. Wade, James, Melo, Bosh all in one offseason. I wonder if Kaman only took 3 yrs as well??

We can field the greatest team of all time. And in NY they would be imortal legends. Now all we gotta do is sell them this Idea. Its not like Dolan can't afford to have 5 max contracts or something.

Agreed, but you're thinking too "inside the box". What about the years after? Dwight Howard's gonna sign for three years so we're def getting him. And I guess throw Ben Gordon in there for kicks.

Oh and don't forget to bring in some vets.. maybe Amare will do. He's injured so his value's gonna plummet. Definitely.

No way. I dont want Amare. He is damaged goods. I say we bring in Garnett to run with Bosh and Melo up front. He would be a great veteran presence.

LeBron's presence alone could solve MSG Network's programming shortage. It could run with LeBron 24/7.

NY is honestly the last place I'd want to play. Unless you win a championship every year, the fans and media are absolutely brutal on you.
