Camby holds out hope
Center for Nuggets says he 'would love to stay in Denver'

LAS VEGAS - When center Marcus Camby saw Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke spend about $140 million last weekend, he only could say one thing.
"I said, 'This guy is loaded,' " Camby said.
Loaded enough, though, to keep four high-priced frontcourt players?
Nuggets coach George Karl said last month the Nuggets can't afford to keep four "$10 million" frontcourt players, although he since has backed off.
Carmelo Anthony, who will sign a five-year, $79 million contract extension, isn't going anywhere. Neither is Nene, who will sign a six-year, $60 million deal.
Of the other $10 million guys, Kenyon Martin is the most likely to be dealt. But Camby has heard his name in trade rumors.
"I would love to stay in Denver, but I understand this is a business and moves have to be made," said Camby, who is in Las Vegas until Monday to work out and watched Denver's 93-90 loss to Houston on Friday in the Vegas Summer League. "If the roster stays the way it was, I think we can make it work. I think we have the best core group of big men in myself, Nene and Kenyon and, hopefully, we can bring back (free agents Reggie Evans and Francisco Elson)."
Camby applauded the deals that went to Anthony and Nene.
"They're definitely an integral part of our future," Camby said. "Melo is a great, great player, one of the great players of all time. Nene is one of the most promising big men in the league."
Camby spoke a few weeks ago with Martin, but Martin didn't mention possibly being traded. Martin has been linked to New York.
While new Knicks coach Isiah Thomas wouldn't speak directly about Martin, he's not anticipating that his team's big-spending days are over. He said he has "all the flexibility that we need to improve."
As for Camby, Karl emphasized he loves his game. But he steered away from questions regarding his future.
"I don't think you ever talk personnel with players," Karl said. "I think everybody knows it's a business. When you have somewhat of a disappointing season, everybody feels we've got to make some changes."
While a trade involving Camby would appear to be unlikely, Camby did joke about the possibility of playing again for the Knicks.
"I still have my house in New York," he said.
