New York Post - Free agent Jackie Butler, out of contract, is refusing to play with the Knicks in the summer league, the New York Post is reporting.

Keith Glass, Butler's agent, will meet with Isiah Thomas this weekend and contends four teams are willing to offer Butler more than the Knicks' $1 million qualifying offer
''We don't have the luxury to take anybody lightly,'' New York's Quentin Richardson said. ''We're not that good.''

it was nice having you jackie, but with the new regime, it's gonna be a tighter rotation and 2 mill for the number 4 low post option off the bench just isn't going to suffice.

maybe, but we'd have to unload one of our high priced jimmy's
all kool aid all the time.

this is confusing to me. The knicks currently a very confused organization with way too many players. If Jackie has offers from other teams AND if he thinks he can get better playing time, why bother with the Knicks? Just get the deal and leave or get the deal and see it matched.

obviously, the agent must be fibbing, or they're trying to get the knicks to drive their offer up

This agent is playing hardball with the Knicks. Keith Glass is the son of Larry Brown's agent, Joe Glass.

I don't think Keith learned anything from his pop. Why do this when, in all honesty, the Knicks have a better replacement on the S/L team in Adeleke? He'll do everything Butler does plus he is a good scorer (he averaged 20 and 13 in his senior year).

Word to Keith-You can only use hardball tactics when YOU have the upper hand!

yeah, i agree...I don't think he understands that this is the sign and match time the game, if he has offers sign and see if the knicks match, otherwise, why even say anything?

I don't know if you added the Glass tidbit as fact or for emphsis.

EVERY agent plays hardball or they should be fired. Still, the tactic is confusing, no?

Exactly. That's exactly why I'm not that concerned with losing Jackie. We've got options there. Jackie is a little bigger and younger than Adeleke and Killingsworth and if I had a choice between the three right now for that last bigman off the bench spot, it's Jackie. Having said that, I really want to see Kenny and Marco play in the SL a little bit. They could be better, who knows. Seen Killingsworth play a few times and I like what I've seen but I want another look. Never seen Adeleke play but I'm looking forward to it. I'm not getting held hostage by Jackie's agent on this either. Zeke did what he had to do - he extended the qualifing offer. Now we can match offers if it seems reasonable or bid JB adieu if it doesn't.

Mindboggling how they're not concerning themselves with Qyntel Woods more. Forget Jackie Butler, Woods has top-10 lottery type talent at a position of need for us. Tremendous talent - it just needs to be harnessed. Bringing back Woods at a good price is lightyears more of a priority for me if I'm Zeke than Jackie Butler.

Maybe but he has a full body of 2 years of work in the NBA to be judged on. I think he and his agent knows he'll get about ten times the Knicks offer (3 years, $10 mil) from multiple teams.
Maybe he's out of shape and doesn't want to get exposed in the summer league also.

Those guys arent 5s. The market for a back up C is somewhere between 3-6mm per --if we can get Jackie to sign a 5yr 15mm$ deal, its good business.

the thing with Jackie is we've seen him play in the NBA- I think he's shown he can be effective.

If JJ doesn't come to camp in shape, cut him and cancel his contract- then, I don't mind Jackie B as the back up C with a 3 year, $15mm type deal.

Killingsworth and Adeleke are both serious unknowns at this stage. They might not be able to make it in the NBA, or they might be better than Jackie- until the Knicks know, I wouldn't want to cut Jackie loose

He has a year and a half-Actually a grand total of 58 games (3 in 04, 55 in 2005-http://www.nba.com/playerfile/jackie_butler/index.html) an he was a spot player reserve who averaged less than 14 minutes per game who had a soft touch but didn't score too much and was a low post rebounder who can't block shots.

Any offeres are going on potential and the work ethic he showed, nothing else. If you want to tell me he can get injured in SL fine, I'll buy that. Not the argument you laid out.

The agent knows that Zeke found this guy, and that Zeke wants him, but this is the most bizarre strategy.

I like Jackie, but hes an undersized C. He's about 6-9 and change. I think he showed some really nice moves in the post, and he sucks on D, but will improve. I don't think its anything critical if he finds another home. If teams are willing to pay him a little more, maybe we can force a s&t for another young prospect?

I am absolutely down with the sign and trade idea. By saying 4 teams are interested in Jackie, Keith Glass just gave Zeke some leverage to use if they give an offer and he matches.

...that's the stranger thing. Isiah already made a qualifiying offer to Bulter and can already match any offer given to Butler. So all this talk between agent and GM is for nothing. I think.
