Rumor Mill III: Apparently Magic forward Trevor Ariza, a restricted free agent, has no interest in playing for the club's summer-league team if he's re-signed.

Apparently Trevor feels he doesn't have much to work on.

Well, this sort of puts things in perspective...I guess dribbling with your head up isn't a requirement for the NBA. Neither is work ethic.

I mean damn, Jordan, Bird, Hakeem, and Magic worked on things over the summer late into their careers.

I always like Trev... but its funny how Holfresh and co can go on and on about how Larry's comments can ruin a player's motivation, but then stories like this come up. Maybe the Orl coaching staff said mean things to Trev also?

When I saw Berman write this I thought he was being ridiculous. I liked Ariza, but to say most of us are "mourning the loss" of him is going a bit far.

um, players heading into their third year don't have to attend summer league. Mike Sweetney, among others, refused to take part in summer league in the same situation.

but, yeah, you guys are right, giving away Ariza for Stevie Disenfranchised was a great move, especially when everyone admits we have a guard glut and need perimeter defenders and a small forward. Larry Brown is such a genius! I'm really glad he was so right about Ariza and he really used Francis once he got him!

by the way, the Magic finished 16-4 with Ariza playing 21mpg.

your my hero.

Seriously, I'd love to bring back Ariza should LB not be here next year.

He played defense and rebounded. He's a better 3 than Rose.

i don't know what that was all about... the comments here were directed at people's feelings that he still could use ALOT of work on his game & could probably benefit from participating in summer league games... unless you happen to think that pisspoor jumpshot of his & his crappy ballhandling doesn't need any work.

Can that 16-4 record in the least be attributed to Nelson at the point and focusing more on Howard in the post, better team cohesion? I'm sure Trevor "I don't need to work on anything Ariza" wasn't the main part of that, Even though he averaged an amazing 4 points and 4 rebounds in 13.7 (not 21) minutes....

As a fan I was excited about Reezy. But there is usually more to that things than meet the eye.

Reezy is a two year player who does not have a contract. He is still very young and can use summer league to work on his game.

If larrys comments can ruin players, they are likly already on that road anyway.

Good riddance Trevor. These are exactly the kind of players that the Knicks need to rid themselves of that remain on the roster. Trevor was a decent at best player for the Knicks but his offensive game was atrocious because of his inability to make a jumpshot. Was/is he young? Sure but his attitude was always a question mark and now it appears that is no longer is a question mark.

The Magic did not finish 16-4 becuase they got Trevor Ariza on their roster. The same people could say that record could be attributed to Darko, they would be wrong, but you could say it. The reason the Magic went on that streak is because the team rid themselves of a cancer that was killing their team with his primadona ways and they sent him packing to the Knicks. This allowed Jameer Nelson to be more free with the PG duties and since he's a true PG, he found a way to get others involved, most notably Dwight Howard.

Your right, Trevor is entering his 3rd year in the league and does NOT have to attend summerleague if he doesn't want too but that is usually reserved for players who are actually producing at a high level in the NBA already, something Trevor is nowhere near and the the Magic want their young player to hone his skills. But no, Trevor knows basketball more then Larry Brown does and more then the Magic organization do, so if he doesn't think his game needs work then, Damn! he must be right!

Ariza is a nice spark plug to contribute 10 minutes a game on a good team. He'll grab an acorbatic rebound, throw down a hard dunk and get the crowd into it.

As far as developing into a good player who could start in the NBA on a decent team - it will NEVER happen unless he learns how to dribble and becomes smart. He is truly one of the dumbest NBA players I have ever seen. He makes so many airhead mistakes its unbelievable. His instincts save him a bit (on steals and some boards) but that can only take you so far. Lastly, I don't think he has the dedication - this could be just where he's at maturity wise and the contract offers he gets this summer may be a wake up call, but right now his work ethic is poor.

Bottom line, I'm not mourning at all, quite the opposite....

Right, remember when Isiah called Ariza delusional and stopped allowing Larry to play him. And Isiah asked Larry for Francis and then didn't play him or define a role for him. Sorry, I forgot that Isiah is the scapegoat and Larry is teflon because no one has ever fired him before. My bad.

Summer camp is playing against professional competition to work on parts of your game that you lack, which Ariza has ALOT of. How do you see not constituting working on your game? Basketball is a TEAM sport, as hard as it for some of you to realize.

What does playing in a summer league have to do with his development...Not one damn thing...Magic and Bird worked out on their own as another poster tried to implicate him...You guys just nitpick at the silliest things..Who cares if he shows up for summer camp...It has absolutely no bearing oh his performance during the season...People don't learn to dribble in summer camp...
