With the way playoffs are going what do you guys think? The parts we have in place right now it would seem like we are heading in the right direction as far as personel but not the coach.

Both of these teams play very good defense. Look at the Mavs, they are starting a great shotblocker in Diop and a great man-to-man defender in Griffin. Running up and down the court will never win you a championship, UNLESS, you start it with tough hard-nosed defense creating steals and blocked shots. The way I see it, the Knicks have none of these qualities.

the heat defense looks confused by the Dallas offense, the knicks have a few players that have these qualities, David Lee, Nate Robinson, QWoods and QRich to name a few...the bigs don't really count, because no bigs create steals, but I like the promis of Channing and JackieB.

But hey, I'm an optimist.

The main reason I like the Mavs to win is that they adjust to their lineups to counter their opponent's. It worked for them in the Suns series where they employed a smaller faster lineup to counteract the Suns and now the have the bigger lineup to defend Shaq. I Like that, wish it could be employed here with the Knicks.

The Mavs have no point guard on their team and are doing fabulous. No bithcing and moaning about their pg situation, just coaching what he has.

dirk...hmmm...not so sure the star of hte team is in avery's mold, but he puts up good numbers and he's able to work around him.

I think that's where we went wrong, instead of building around our best players skillset, we tried to limit his use of that and make him something he isn't, dirk still doesn't play the best defense, but he is put in a position where his faults are minimized...Had brown concentrated(s) on everyone else on the roster and let our best player continue to get his 20/8, we may be in a better position.

Sort of like how Vancouver let Shareef Abdur Rahim get his 20 and 7 every night and stockpiled wins??

Don't mean to sound nasty but it is about more than one guy getting his stats.....Steph is a great talent but his 20 and 8 never got a team anywhere meaningful....Marbury has been in the L 10 years made the playoffs 4 times and never got out of round 1....never lasted more than 6 games in any appearence....http://www.databasebasketball.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=MARBUST01

There are guys who get numbers that carry a team (Iverson, Arenas, Duncan, LeBron, Wade) and there are guys that get numbers that are just there and are not really meaningful in the overall game (Steph, Rahim, TMac, Twan Walker)

I don't know man, all I know is Shareef was the same way with 3 teams (Van, Atl, Port....before he actually started winning in SacTown-where he was an unquestioned complimentary piece as a bench player/part time starter), Marbury has been the same with (Minny, NJ, Phx, NY)....

With the exception of the Jordan years, the championship has usually been won by the team with the most dominant big(s). There's an opening now that Shaq and Duncan are aging. Detroit won with Sheed/Ben, now it's Dirk.

Curry and Frye are a pretty good pair of young, talented bigs.

I think we have a good chance to be a very versatile team like the Mavs. We'll be adding more this offseason and the young talent we have should show some improvement over last year. The idea of working around your best player isn't new. Just look at how much better the team looked when Steph was doing what he does. But yes its not just about him and that's what makes a good TEAM good. They have more than just their star players. The supporting cast does their job and they SUPPORT the star. That's not what LB was doing. He was the perfect coach to run the Pistons, cuz they didn't have any ONE star. His philosophy works great in that regard. But we aren't the Pistons, so I really think that the team could have done more had he worked to enhance what Steph can do rather than try to STOMP all over his game like he did. That's basically what they did with Arenas in Wash.

I wish for once you guys would hey your own opinions instead of repeating what you read or hear some analist say.

Shot blocking is a tad overrated. It helps uf you have a really good one but aside from that the team has to have a team concept on what everyone is supposed to do. A certain amount of trust has to be met by everyone including the coach.

Now the knicks should be like the Dallas mavs? How bout the knicks be the best knicks team they can be?

Right now the knicks have a team that is prime and ready built around an awesome group of young explosive and dynamic guard play....but a coach that wants to take away the strengths of his best players to soothe his own ego.

Right now knicks have the talent to have at least beaten out the bucks for the playoffs and gotten swept by Detroit in the first round. Right now the knicks should be thinking of looking for the missing piece not missing teeth! The knicks have no clue right now. We dunno what we are supposed to do. There is no style of play.

The knicks have to be the best team they can be. Brown wants the knicks to be everything but who they are. Isiah has all the parts to build a two family but the coach used that to start building a sky scraper. Didn't he read the plan before he took the job? Now you need more supplies? That wasn't the plan!
