anyone agree or disagree?
DISAGREE!!!
To use the first game of the Finals as evidence of Walker as a bad-vibe player is unfair. Walker has been right in the middle of this run for the title, picking up the slack whenever needed, and carrying the team offensively for short periods of time when Wade or Shaq weren't. Was he a bad-vibe player throughout the first 3 rounds?
Yes, he missed a bunch of threes in the last game, but he was also a part of many a good play.
I disagree with the characterization of Walker as the ultimate chucker. The man does what his coach asks him to do. If Riley did not want Walker shooting threes, Walker would have been yanked.
I think there is too much concentration on his 3 point shooting. He is not an efficiency player, he is a playmaker.
Has anyone noticed that he is the most creative passer on the Heat? And for a guy who is always out on the perimeter, he gets his fair share of rebounds! He is also an emotional leader, I have seen the Heat rally around his energy many times during the playoffs.
in walker's case, it's a guy who takes untimely 3's, hurting his team's chances of sustaining momentum when thy're trying to claw back into the game. also tries to do more with the ball than his skills can support - too much dribbling, trying for too fancy of passes, trying to beat ball pressure on his own instead of giving it up - resulting in more turnovers at crucial times, again killing momentum. ignoring the need to fill a role - feed shaq, fill a lane, fight for offensive rebounds, push for postition in the post and take advantage of his nice skills down there. instead, he's trying to be a flashy high-skilled player, failng at it, costing his team possesions, costing them momentum and contributing strongly to a loss.
Are you talking about this one past game? Because he did a lot of those things you are describing quite successfully against the Bulls, Nets, and Pistons. Even is he has a horrible series vs. the Mavs, he has had a pretty damn good playoff run.
It seems that many concentrate on Walker's numbers as opposed to the success of the teams he has played on, all of which he has been a big part of. But they want to ignore the good part of his numbers and focus on his percentages only.
Antoine walker has a NCAA National Championship, has been to the playoffs 5 times, the conference finals twice, and now the NBA finals where he has a pretty good chance of getting an NBA title.
That is not a bad vibe player.
If anything, I feel vindicated in my long drawn-out arguments with Marv, Briggs, and Tomverve last summer.
Now stop hating Marv!
